Hello,

I've had a Cub Cadet LT1050 for almost 2 years. Today I was mowing uphill and when I was near the top of the hill I heard the hydrostat whine a bit louder than normal and a couple of clicks - then I was out of business - unable to go forward or reverse. I briefly looked for a broken drive belt, but I didn't find a broken belt (I could have missed it, my wife is throwing a party tomorrow so I needed to get the last half grass cut w/ the push mower before dark.) The motor starts up and runs fine - nothing happens when the pedal is pushed.

I've done a bit of reading on the forum and it seems that others with the 1000 series have had similar problems, but I didn't really get a good feel about how the problem was fixed.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem is - belt, transmission, tensioner spring? Is it covered by warranty? If not, what parts are needed to repair (and approx. cost) and about how difficult is the repair?

I bought it at Lowe's, I know I should have used a CC dealer.

Thanks for your help!

May still be under waranty. Was it hot? This will cause it to cease running till it cools down. Can you see the cooling fan on top of the transaxle; is it turning? If it is; belt ok.

No, the fan isn't turning (and its had 3.5 hrs to cool down) so it sounds like the belt is probably the culprit. How difficult is it to change this belt? About how costly? Is there anything else to check out while I'm at it?

Thank you.

Pull mower off of unit. After it is off, raise front of tractor with a floor jack or drive it on ramps to allow clearance for you to inspect under unit. Main drive belt is a pain to change. You may want to call a dealer and ask how much to change it. You can do it yourself though. It may not be the belt. Idler pulley may be culpert. I am sure you will see problem after inspection.

It looks like I lucked out. The spring for the idler pulley became detached. I reconnected it and I'm back in business. Thank you for your help.
