I have a Kubota B2782A snow thrower mounted on my Kubota and I can not figure how to get to the forward universal on the female section of the drive line. It is covered by a bell housing on the shaft which does not offer a way to remove it or, at least, slide it back. Has anybody figured out how to lubricate the zerk fitting which I presume is on the universal?

Thanks

That's a plastic cover.... the white tabs can be pushed in, then the cover will slide off the shaft away from the U-joint. Hope this helps....

Thank you. I'll try that tomorrow!

The 10-year old drive line is made by Weasler and does not have the current "Easy Lock" design where you rotate a bushing to release and slide the plastic shield back. The white tabs on my older drive do not push in and rotating them the available 1/4" in either direction does not seem to allow the shield to be removed from over the universal joint. Has anybody had any luck in getting the shield removed enough to get at a grease fitting?

Usually one leaves the drive line connected to the implement and disconnect it at the tractor, I am not sure why you would take it off at the implement regularly. For lubricating the zerk, you will probably have to take the safety cover off of the implement. You may or may not be able to grease it with the drive shaft cover on. If you have to remove the drive shaft cover, you can. They are all made differently and it is just a matter of figuring it out. It is frustrating that they never give instructions about how to disassemble the cover. You may end up damaging the drive shaft cover when you try to figure out how to disassemble it. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They usually work adequately even when they are damaged.

I can appreciate your frustration. Seems like lawyers have forced manufacturers to make safety covers for everything that might possibly be of danger, which is fine, but they are seldom designed with servicing in mind. I suspect the engineers assume that the owner is going to throw away the cover after a while anyhow.

I can't tell from the photo, but sometimes there is a hole the size of the grease gun coupler in the shield, you have to rotate it the right way and rotate the shaft the right way and angle to line things up. Since you have blower off you have best access to look.

I've cut a few safety covers to get access to grease zerks. Last one use a hole saw at approximated location and got lucky that the hole lined up with the zerk location.
