Someone mentioned the idea of a self oil changing tractor in another post. In my business, our trucks (semi tractors) are set up with a "self lubrication system" that automatically lubricates the the grease points. I think that it consists of lines with some sort of regulators that connect to each grease point along with a pumping process to get the grease where it needs to be. The only thing that it cannot manage is the points on the drive shaft & u-joints. It is a great system - all you have to do is top off the grease reservoir once in a while. Anyone ever heard of such a thing for tractors? Maybe somewhat saphisticated for Ag. use & only used for semi trucks since they are more technically advanced these days.

The keyword here is "these days", since my 79 White still has zerks, needs a grease gun, and someone to work it.
If this system is on any tractors, I would guess it would be on newer, larger ag machines. Surely you would have to have an on board compressor. Sounds like this system is only being used on fleet applications. I don't know that for sure, the prices on new trucks have kept me from even looking at them./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I don't know of any multilube systems on tractors. That being said, certain balers, forage harvesters, combines and other ag equipment have had different versions of multilube systems available since at least the early 1960's if not sooner. The number of grease zerks, recommended frequencies for greasing them and the challenges of protecting the lube lines makes the economics of a multilube system on tractors unattractive. Multilube systems do not require a high level of sophistication to be worthwhile, just a machine with a need for grease at many points at intervals much nearer 8-20 hours.
