I've got a 05 or 06 (not sure)1046 I lucked up and got one with a 23hp Command engine. Currently have 220hrs on the little jewel. Runs like a champ. I hate to see Cub throw away their reputation by installing the courage line of engines. It's getting very expensive to aquire a machine with a command these days. Pretty much reserved for commercial mowers now. I want to buy a z-force ztr soon but now since they're sold with courages not sure I want to risk it. If anyone has a courage engine with high hours please make a post and tell us your story. I also just bought an 06(used) gt2550 with 120hrs on it. Seems like a solid machine. I had to do some tinkering with it after I got it home.(adjusted the linkage to gain forward speed) Hope to have many years of service with this machine.

From what i understand, their isnt much difference between the two motors.Except the air cleaner. What else is better about the command engine?

From what I've read around this place the courage is a lighter duty unit frought with problems.

I've got the 23 HP Command on my Z Force 50. 200 hours so far, and no issues.

Not sure of the differences in Kohlers, as this is my first Kohler in all these years. No doubt I would buy another if I needed a new tractor.

I can't remember for sure but I believe that I have read that the Command has an expected engine life of 2000 hours and the Courage 750 hours. No doubt the Command is a better built engine.

Yeah if it`s rated 1,250 more hours, then I guess it is better.

You might be thinking of the vertical Command and horizontal Command that differ only in the air cleaner.

The Courage and Command differ in just about everything. I've read on the forums and been told by three tractor dealers that the Command is rated for somewhere around 1500+ hours, while the Courage is rated for about 600. There are several flavors of Commands and Courages though, so the life expectancy can vary within the same family.

The kicker for me has been the three dealers I've talked to: they all say that the difference between the Courage and Command is night and day. They all view the courage as a disposable, short-life engine.
