lx279 no power

I have a lx279 that I bought used so no manual. I like it and the engine runs fine, but he won't hardly back up. It has no power, seems to be in the transmission. The tranny fluid level is fine. It never had good power backing up but it has gotten worse. Does it have a tranny filter that could be clogged? Any ideas?

Have you checked the linkage below the tractor between the pedals and the transmission? There is a single linkage connected to the forward pedal. The backward pedal pushes on the forward pedal moving the linkage.

You can see the read end of the linkage in front of the pedal side rear wheel. It is pinned in place. I suggest having someone press the pedals while watching the rear end of the linkage move. The length of the linkage is adjustable as the rear end unscrews. If it were out of adjustment it would limit reverse speed.

The linkage and pedals come off with the floor and wheel wells of the tractor. To remove this piece remove the pin from the rear of the linkage and disconnect the rear of the linkage. Then remove the four bolts holding the seat on, 2 in front and two accessible with the seat flipped up. Then remove two bolts through the seat area. The final two bolts go through the floor at the front. The top of the bolts can be found under the rubber floor mats. Then from the back lift up on the floor and wheel well section and move it backwards until it is free. Please be careful not to damage the pedal to transmission linkage.

Once the floor and wheel wells are off you may want to manually actuate the transmission lever and see if reverse is stronger which would indicate a pedal / linkage issue.
