Yesterday, I borrowed dad's mower(since it has the bagger) to suck up the leaves and I did something stupid. Stupid hurts, ya know!!

Ok, the details are-
Machine: LX280 with 54" deck and the powerflow bagging system with two bags.

What I did: When I mounted the blower unit, I forgot to latch/secure the back edge of the unit to the deck.

What happened: Belt broke.

I never paid any attention to how the belt was installed in the blower, and now I have no idea how to install it. Since it is an out of date machine, the JD dealer offered no help othe than look in the manual. (Whoop-de what great customer service. Of course, this may mean that they get to install it for me so I bit my tongue!) Dad does not have a manual for the bagger, but does for the mower.

Can anyone help me install this thing?
Either by diagram or instruction list. Maybe someone has better Google-fu than me and can send me a link.

I already have the replacement belt.

Thanks,
Rod

How about a serial number off the powerflow?
Sorry the dealer wasn't more help, but very likely they also just don't know. That doesn't mean they can't look it up tho.

A picture of the powerflow that you have may also help. I have a powerflow on my 54" deck and if yours is similar, we can get it fixed right.

Ser# - GX54HPY016XXX

Model# - 54" Blower

Date code - 020905

I'll see about uploading pics when I figure out how on TBN.

Looks like the belt goes between these two pulleys and the pulley on the deck, but I dont know exactly how.

you can use the pulleys you see as a guide,
the ones with the flat pulley are for the back
of the belt, and the one with the V groove is
for the tapered part of the belt.
then that belt sort of twists when it goes
to the drive pulley on the mower deck.

maybe somebody here can put up the picture
of the belt routing

Dutch,
That truly is my hope!!

At $30 a belt, I dont want to install it wrong and rip this belt to shreds.

Surely, some one on here has this same set up to help me out.

Thanks,
Rod

That is very close to the same powerflow that I have, and do know that you will have to remove the outside cover (with the JD logo on it) to get the new belt on.
I will scan and post pics from the Op Manual that I have. About 6 pages.

Only three pages, and I think the important one is the pics showing the position of the belt behind the belt cover. I'll post the three scanned pages in addition to this blowup of just the images on the third page.

WOW!!

Thanks beenthere. I will try this tomorow if my hectic schedule will allow. I have to do a little deciphering to figure out the sheaves, but that info is what I need. Dont delete these images until I get this done.

Thanks again,
Rod

Those images are not going anywhere. :)
The key is that side cover that unbolts and slides forward. Once that is off, the pulleys (sheaves) will be obvious between the flat one and the two v-groove ones. Then adjust the brackets that confine the belt to the pulley is all there is to it.

I had to put a new housing around mine and went through the routine last year.

Well, apparently dad's blower is slightly different than yours. Maybe a year model thing or something, but it didnt come apart or go back together quite like the instructions. In fact, they were about as clear as mud. It was like the words were translated, and pertinent info was left out. The big help was just seing a pic of it torn apart.

In any case, I got it back together, and as soon as the rain stops, I will see if I did it right or not.

Thanks for the advice and help, esp. beenthere
