I searched the previous posts but couldn't find much about Kubota 6030.

Here's the situation: we just bought 72 acres, the land is not completely flat, it has some hills, about 36 acres of it is in pasture, maybe 20 in timber, some wetland, and so on. What we want the tractor for: a little bit of everything (as crazy as this may sound). In the future we want to have a few acres of hay, a few acres of vegetables, some fruit trees, some animals.

I looked around for tractors a lot in the last few months. Your forum here helped me tremendously. Every time I found one I came here and searched to see what people that owned it had to say about it. Very useful! I learned a lot, but I don't know anything yet.

Long story short: I am looking at a used Kubota M6030n (which stands for narrow), from the nineties, with 2700 hours on it. It's a 4WD, 3 cylinder, 60 HP, has not attachments whatsoever. The guy used it in a cherry orchard, and the tractor seems so be well taken care for. I have only seen pictures of it. He is asking $9,500.

I know somebody here said that they would never buy a tractor without FEL, but I was thinking we could get one later and put it on. We would also have to get all the needed implements: tiller, rotary cutter, blade and so on.

As far as the budget goes, we can't afford anything more than $10,000 for the tractor right now, and we will have to get the attachments one by one later on.

My reasoning is that we need a big tractor for this much land, and this one, even with this many hours on it, might still be good for a long time. We can't justify buying a new one right now, big or small.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

I am not that familiar with the tractor at which you are looking, but 2500 hours really wouldn't concern me. Before buying, you might want to check to see how much a loader will cost.

I agree with TripleR in that you should price up the FEL that will go with the tractor you want.
You have a LOT OF LAND and unless you have a LOT OF KIDS...you're going to need a LOT OF HELP from a tractor with attachments just to make life easy on you.

A tractor with the FEL is the minimum you need along with a disc or plow to turn up a garden. Once you get the garden installed you're going to want a tiller. Once you start messing with trees you will FALL IN LOVE with a grapple.

I had 14 acres that had not been taken care of and started with a small 53 Jubilee with FEL, Howse brush cutter and a 2 bottom blow and three kids. I got all of these cheap (except the kids) but the Jubilee took some maintenance every year (Time and Money). I traded honey to borrow my neighbors tiller in the spring and fall.

Going into winter now...would it be worth saving up a few more bucks and get educated on what you need and purchase in the spring and being able to buy more?

Sounds like a beautiful piece of land!

This site lists specs and tests for the M6030. I'm not sure about a "narrow" tractor if you have any hills. Good luck.

It sure is. Quicke and Westendorf make aftermarket FEL's. I am sure there are others, I'm just not familiar with them.

Don't buy a narrow tractor. You'll have a hard time finding a loader for it. Besides you probably want a stable tractor for the 36 acres of pastures and hills.

For the size of your property you should probably go for at least 50HP at the PTO.

If I were you, I would buy a new tractor, put down $10K, finance the rest at 0%. Buy one that will last you a long time. You don't want to buy an old tractor and be working on your tractor, not on your property.

What is the biggest job? Balling, plowing, snow blowing? Size the tractor accordingly and add some room for the just in case situations.
If you got hills, I would go with 4WD. Something along the M7040 or JD 5083E lines.

Don't buy any tractor without a loader. You can add forklift forks, spears, stone buckets, grapples etc. It just makes your tractor a more versatile tool.

You have to ask yourself: What am I going to do with this property?
Are you going to farm it? Or just maintain it? But even for mowing you need 8'-10' mower, otherwise it will take you a long time to cut the grass.

Pass on it and look for one with a loader. I bought a M6800 and added a loader 4 years later. It is way more expensive doing it that way. I spent about as much on a loader as you plan to spend on the tractor. There are plenty of good used ones with loaders out there. I also agree you may have a hard time finding a loader if you decide to get one (and you will need it)

I will definitely pass on this one. Probably a good tractor, and appropriate for an orchard, but not for my purpose.

There will be both maintenance work and farming on this piece of land. I agree, better do more research, and maybe even wait and save some more money, and buy one that will last a long time.
