Differences between M-9540/M-9000 and M95S.
I realize one is considered a "utility" and the other a dedicated Ag tractor, but are there other deeper differences? Axles, transmission, rears, etc.?
Looks like M-95S weighs more. Maybe more stable, thicker iron?
Another thing I see is the M95S has mechanically locking rear and front differential pedals.

The 9000 will not have the restrictive emission controls. The 9540, and perhaps the other unit, has an exhaust gas recirculator (egr) which pumps the exhaust/soot back through the engine to burn off harmful gases. I know in diesel trucks this system had decreased reliability, longevity, and fuel mileage. U can not say for sure what this has done to the tractors, but there must certainly be less issues without it.

Just looked at an M105 today.
Advantages over M9000/9540 are heavier build, turbocharged and intercooled and driver operated mechanical rear/front locking differentials.
Very nice rig.

The M9540 will have a wheelbase of 88.6" and either a 8 speed or a 12 speed trans. (They just started offering a 24 speed which is the 12 speed with a high and low in each gear) It has a base weight of 6175lbs. Its loader will lift to 2866lbs to 145" (bucket center)

The M95S will have a wheelbase of 95.9" and either a 16 speed trans of a 32 speed trans (high low in each gear). It has a base weight of 8025lbs. Its loader will lift 2976lbs to 145" (bucket center)

The M9000 is the model the M9540 replaced and should be about the same and have either and 8 speed trans or maybe a 12 speed.

So the M95S is a lot heaver, has a longer wheelbase, and a much nicer trans. It also has larger tires.

Looking at some of the M-105's, I noticed the trans shifter has a "+" and "-" toggle on the shifter.
I wonder if this is a toggle to upshift/downshift like the Allison trans in my GM truck or is it a throttle up/down button? The make what they call a "dual shift" trans. Maybe that's what the toggle is.
If you look at this unit's interior picture you'll see the toggle on the shifter

The M-105X is different than the M-105S (and M-95S which is the same with less power). The M-105X has a power shift where the + and - on the shifter change the gears in that range and moving the whole shifter forwards or backwards changes range.

On the M-95S and M-105S the shifter has four gears like your M7040 but moving the shifter to the right shifts a synchronized range change that gives you four more gears. This whole thing has a high and low like your 7040, you just have two sets of four gears in each range, for a total of 16 gears. Most of them (all 4WD with cab I believe) also have a + and - on the shifter. This gives you a high and a low in each of the 16 gears that can be shifted without cluching for a total of 32 gears but you still have to cluch between each or the 16 gears. I believe this is what is called a dual shift trans but could be wrong.

You're welcome. That powershift on the 105X should be great.

Here are a couple links that better explain the trans in each.

I got to run 108 (same as 105 it think) last year pulling a small 6yrd scraper and it was an assume tractor. I also used it for some loader work. It was very smooth when shifting I was using it on some steep slopes and it worked very well. Only wish I had enough work to have one in my shed. Any question on it ask
