M4800SU

While attempting to locate a JD 5103, I visited a dealer who handles Kubota and John Deere. No 5103's in stock, but they did have an M4800SU (52HP/43PTO). This tractor has an interesting setup with a partially synchronized transmission and a synchronized "shuttle" from low range forward to reverse (something like that) on the left side of the seat. After pre-flight instuctions, they handed me the keys so I could go "play". Tractor was quiet and quite maneuverable for a full size ag tractor (I guess, never having operated one that large). Shuttle shift was different and quite easy to use. It's probably more HP than I'll ever need but it's only 1K more than the the 5103 (44HP/38PTO). Price for this tractor was $13,500. Add $4,150 for FEL.

Anybody have or used one of these? Any positive or negative feedback?

I've got a M4900SU, which has a few more bells and whistles and a 5 cylinder engine. It is a great tractor and a pleasure to operate. I will NEVER have another tractor without the shuttle shift.

Sorry RDAM, I even went to the tractor reviews hoping to direct you to a 4800 review. In case you did not know its at the bottom of the page.
It has been my experience that the smaller the tractor, the more folks there are here with them, just check out the Kubota BX posts. From there its a steady decline in ownership numbers as you get larger, it's that way across the board with a few exceptions. If you want some great opinions, email the folks at tractorsmart, they have some great advice. Rat.
