Looking for a tractor in the 20-22k range(used).

It needs to weigh in very near 7k (4wd, loader, and loaded tires, I guesstimated a 4500-5000 lb tractor?) to fit on my 12k trailer with a 2500lb drill)

Needs to pull a 9 shank tiller (some people call them chisel plows, but it isnt as heavy or deep as a "real" chisel plow)

Needs to carry a 3pt 605nt drill weighing 2500+ lbs

So my questions are...

What do these things weigh loaded and loadered?:laughing:

Will a 5040 pull a 9 shank tiller? I know that my old ford 3000 (4000lb 40hp 2wd) will not. I have to remove the two outside shanks.

Is 70 hp really useful on a 5000 lb tractor?

Weights and such should be available on the web site. I honestly don't know what any ground engagement tool any of these will pull. Our Ford NAA will easily pull a 2 bottom plow on one of our farms and only spin the tires on another.

To me 70 HP can be very helpful depending on your chores. We use two ten foot rotary cutters that would not do well with less and actually work right with 85 HP.

The 7040 is about the same size as my TN75da. My guess is you'd want the 7040, but it might be over the gross weight you want, thats with the 2500lb drill plus tractor.

We pull a 3 bottom plow in rocky NY soil and drag a 2k pound mulch layer for raised bed planting.

tractor handles the above equipment fine, sorry no experience with a mounted drill.

Tractor weights are listed online, but a tractor weight aint the same as a tractor weight.

What do you reckon the cast weights weigh?

The rear wheel weights from Kubota weigh in at 330lbs per set and you can use up to three sets.
In liquid that would equal out to about 1500lbs in use.


You say you need to pull nine shanks, how deep?

Normally for chisel plows we look for about 10 horsepower per shank for three point hook up or 15 horsepower for trailer chisel plows but they go in about 12 inches.

On a bo-tiller (what we call them). Probably around 8 or 9" deep.

Shallower than a real chisel plow, much shallower than a sub-soiler.

Now I know what you are talking about, we have one of those we pull with a Ford 600, but it is a bit smaller, you are right, they take a lot of power, but not on the order of a regular chisel plow.

We also have a 10' Great Plains NT drill we pull with a 80 HP tractor. The NT really takes the power, but a 5' like you have really shouldn't be a problem for a 60 HP tractor to pull, but a little heavy on the three point; need to check the specs.

80hp will pull that pretty good,unless you load it down.
