Hello there I am another newbie, I am really close to buying one of these tractors and was wondering if I could have some help on west coast pricing (Ca). I was quoted $28k on a M6040 with 1153 loader, and $26k for the M5040. The sales person mentioned something about 600lb. weights on the back tires, I'm pretty sure that is part of the deal. The cool part is the dealership is 5 miles from my ranch. I just want to make sure I'm in the ballpark. Any help will be apreciated.

I would have to ask what your intended use for the machine will be. I have an M7040 which gives you more HP and limited slip in the front axle. I believe the M6040 and the M7040 are pretty much the same otherwise. Make sure you get hydraulic shuttle. It's a much stronger clutch design.

Wow, nice picture/ tractor. I will be using the tractor to pull up borders, discing, broadcasting, and harrowing for 20 acres. I just built a new house so lots of landscaping, and eventualy flail and Brush Hog mowing up and down the roadsides. I have been trying to keep my streets roadside cleaned up since all my neighbors don't seem to care. Whatever tractor I get it will stay pretty busy for a while.
I would like to save the $2k and go with the M5040 if it will be enough tractor. But if $28k for the M6040 is an awesome deal then I will it buy it instead. I hope this makes sence. What do you think?
I've got a 5040 and so far I have used it with my 7' box blade, 7' bush hog, and front grapple bucket on the fel. In the past I have had a m5400 and a m95. I used the 5400 for around 10 years and I think the 5040 is a better tractor than the 5040 that we use to have. Everytime I use mine I am more impressed with its capabilities. I have thought a couple of times that I wish I had gone ahead and bought the 70hp version but in reality so far I haven't needed it. I could have bought either and chose to save the money.......so far I haven't had a single regret.
I've made up my mind to go with the M6040. I just don't want to have any regrets. Anyways here is the deal that has been offered to me. I get the M6040, 12.5/80-18 r4's in front, 16.9-24 r4's in rear, rear work light, drawbar clevis, LA1153 self leveling loader, and a front guard. All that for $28,159. I can add the 600 lb. wheel weights for $600 additional. Do I need the weights? Should I buy even more weight for the front? The sales person says I may need it when using the loader.
my 2 cents about wheel weights - liquid ballast is better several ways. (1) Liquid ballast has a lower center of gravity because it's only full to the top of the rim. (2) Liquid ballast has no rotational inertia - so engaging the wheels puts less impulse load on the drive train. (3) Liquid balast is more weight - your 16.9-24's will hold about 50 gallons each - so figure somewhere between 500 and 700 pounds each depending on what liquid is used. These days I understand beet juice is one of the the preferred liquids - its less corrosive than calcium chloride solution. (4) Liquid ballast is cheaper - way less than a dollar a pound.
My L5450 with LA-1150 loader and HD bucket has R4 17.5x24 rears and 12x16.5 fronts. The rears are 75% filled. It will easily lift 2000 lb without feeling light in back. Also, doubt you'll need or want more front weight.
