Well, thanks to this forum I have decided to purchase a M Series over the L Series.

I have a few questions on the M Series?

A) How much more expensive is the M7040 over the M5040?
{Seems everyone prefers the 70}

B) What would be a good prices for the M5040 and M7040?

C) All the M have a manual trany. I do mostly discing, plowing, and tilling. I am currently drive the Hydro trany and love it. How hard do you think it will be for me to learn the standard trany? {As a side note, I have only driven a stick twice in my life}

Thanks for all your past feedback and I would like to thank all those who have given me great advice. "Thank you!"

To the best of my knowledge the M7040 is probably about $3-4K more than the M5040. Maybe a little more. I can't say for sure. But you do get a bigger engine displacement and thus more hp and torque, plus the limited slip front differential, and the ability to get cast iron wheel centers if you want. You need to tell everyone exactly how you want your tractor equipped to get a feel for a good price. I have driven manual transmissions more than automatics in vehicles. Probably more than 2 decades. Manual shift transmissions in tractors are not exactly the same thing. You don't really have to continually shift to accelerate. You just find the right gear for your task and ground speed and go. Then if you need to change ground speed you shift to the appropriate gear. But I can say that when I drove one I found it to be second nature. You may very well have a bit of a learning curve. Drive one and see how it feels and how comfortable you are.

chuckcoug,

As best I remember the prices between the 5040,6040 and 7040 went up about 1500 to 1600 from one tractor to the next. It depended on the dealer I was talking with, but all were close to that range.
Like Glowplug stated, just find the gear the tractor runs smoothest in for each task. Let the clutch out & go with it. You'll have better wear letting the clutch rather slowly and when disengaging push it in quickly. In relation to your choice, I think you made as good one. Good Luck.
