Thanks for the replies fellas, it痴 much appreciated. I will check the clutch free play but don稚 think that痴 the issue. The noise goes away as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed a little. It痴 hard to tell if the noise goes away when you start moving as other noises get louder but it is hard to hear it at anything besides sitting in neutral. It doesn稚 not matter if it痴 in 4wd or 2wd.

I plan to complete a full fluid change out in the next couple weeks I will check the filter and oil for any metal particles.

Same as my tractor if you push the clutch down just a little bit the noise stops ...:confused3:

I have run into issues in the past with the dual disk clutch on my dodge diesel where there is a rattle from the clutch in neutral at idle from the friction disk hub springs. Once you come off idle the centrifugal force keeps springs from rattling. Wasn稚 sure if the clutch setup in this tractor was similar and thus the noise would be considered fairly benign.

Or I have a bearing issue as others have mentioned

Sorry for the late update I just got around to changing the hydraulic oil. I changed the filter and hydraulic oil and inspected the magnet as well as cut open the filter.

The magnetic had hardly anything on it and I found a few very small specks of shinny metal material in the filter but not what I would consider alarming. Given there wasn’t much found on that inspection I will likely operate it for a while and if it gets louder/worse I’ll have to do some repairs then.

1985 5950DT here. Same noise. Did you find anything in the filters?

Sorry for the late reply guys. I ended up selling the tractor. Not for that reason but I had an opportunity to buy a nice low hour massey 1648.

The guy I sold it to is still operating it and has not reported any issues. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
