I have a M6800. It is stuck in reverse gear.

This machine has a mecanical transmission - the type with a lever on the left hand side for reverse, neutral, and forward and a gear control on the right for 1,2 3, 4.

The lever on the left is stuck in reverse.

I've removed the steering wheel and other adjacent components to determine if the linkage had a kink or obstruction - but everthing there is good.

The shaft that goes into the transmission body that is hooked to the linkages will not rotate. It's as if the clutch is not in.

I removed the clutch adjustment stop so that I could depress the clutch pedal all the way down and then tried to move the lever but that did not work either.

Any ideas??

Thanks!

I reviewed other similar postings, and refernce was made to a "plate" or "acess plate". I looked and under the floor mat was a plate - the areas it covers provides access to the area where my gear shift shaft goes into the transmission. I haven't removed it yet - but will based on your feedback.

Is the tractor on pavement now? If so, is it in 4wd? Maybe try taking it out of 4wd, steer right or left and move it back a few inches to unload the contact force on the gears. Then try turning the shaft that shifts F-N-R again . Sorry if this seems like a square-one suggestion - what was the machine doing when this started? I'm assuming it's a manual shuttle (uses the clutch when changing directions)

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried both pushing it back as well as lifting a rear tire off the ground while trying to place it into neutral or forward but neither worked.

In both these instances, I tried to move it to neutral/forward using vicegrips attached to the shaft that goes into the transmission.

The shaft is normally connected to the reverse/neutral/forward lever via linkages but I removed the linkages to eliminate linkages being an issue.

At this point it looks like the issue is inside the transmission. The only other thing I can think of is starting the tractor in reverse, moving it a bit then try to shift into neutral. The issue with that is that the tractor only starts when it is in neutral, which of course, I can't get it into.

I also removed the "plate" I referred to above but that was not helpful since it's removal did not provide the ability to see the area where the shaft entered the transmission body.

Any other ideas or do you know how I could start it when it was in reverse? I obviously would have to have the clutch in. Is there a sensor that I could disengage?

Jacking up a wheel would have relieved any 4wd gear contact forces - so it does look like the shifter inside is stuck. The Kubota traveling service rep for your area should be able to get involved and give you some advice - even if the machine is not at a dealer's shop yet. Maybe you could tell a dealer the problem you are having and ask if you can get an idea of what's involved before signing up for an expensive fishing expedition. The dealer should be willing to contact the Service rep - who should be able to explain what needs to be done to find and fix the problem. If your dealer doesn't respond call Kubota directly in Columbus Ohio (614) 835-1100. There may be a known problem they've seen before - might even be something they'll help fix.
