Not too long ago I was complanning that the side link arms did not go low enough. I fixed that by adjusting the side link rod length and moving them to the inner hole on the side link arms. So now the arms go down almost to ground level.

Of course I find myself with the opposite problem. When I am just transporting an implement - like say the snowblower - which is attached all winter - it really does not lift it very high. We are talking like a foot off the ground.

Curious to know what kind of range of lift others have on their Mxx40 machines?

We were having the same issue on our 7040. Once I got the arms to drop far enough, it just wouldn't lift the implement as high as it should.
On our 7040 which is an Open Station model, I found the adjustment rod that controls how high the arms will go when you have the 3 point lift lever all the way back.
At the back of the tractor on the left 3 point arm there is a brass/gold colored rod that is in a mostly horizontal orientation, this rod is attached to the left lift arm and moves when the arm rises and lowers. The sucker was almost up under the fuel filler / seat back on our tractor.
The length of this rod is adjustable, it has a long adjusting 'nut' with a jam nut on either end to lock it in place.
With the tractor running, pull the 3 point lift lever all the way back to the highest setting, then shorten that rod to the point you hear the hydraulic bypass valve whine then back it off just a little till the whine stops. Be sure to tighten the jam nuts.
On our tractor this gained me quite a bit of lift while still letting the arms drop

Oh be careful if you do this as the lift arms will rise / move as you adjust the rod so be sure nothing gets squashed

Excellent! I will look for it the minute I get home.

I was able to get an extra six inches with that trick! Still less than what I was hoping for but I will take any amount I can get.

Next time I have the snow blower off I will raise up the 3 PT arms through the adjustment. This won't allow the the side links to go down right to the the ground but in most cases I can manage without this. Would rather have a higher transport position.

With a hydraulic top link, you can shorten up the top link when needed and that will lift the implement quite a bit. Then put it back in the working range that you need when you put it back to work. Pretty simple and only $285 + shipping for your M7040.

Hey Brian:

The hyd top link does help quite a bit. I've got one from you and it is great! Will likely get a side link from you to go with it in the spring as I plan to do some grading work.

How much did-does the top link raise the blower when retracted?

canoetrpr - glad you asked about the 3PH. It has always annoyed me that the range of motion did not come close to other, smaller tractors, that I have owned.

Never thought to look for what Treesanddust suggested but will take a stab at it tomorrow.

I, too, use the hydraulic top link to help lift the implement off of the ground to clear ditches and such. Especially when the rear wheel drop into a depression.

Another thing, the 3PH control lever has a stop that keeps the lever from being pulled completely back. It can be easily bypassed by bending the lever slightly toward the wheel when it reaches the stop.

I unscrewed the plastic nut for the stop, turned the bracket 90 degrees under the flashing, and tightened the nut. The stop is out of the way then.

Brian - I get a few inches out of the top link when the 3pt is in fully raised position. If I had gotten a shorter top link it would have helped more for this but hurt for other things.

gwdixon - yes the stop annoys me a lot as well. I'm going to try your trick.

Fantastic:thumbsup:
I will check this out. As said before, I just discovered the strange movment of the 3p on my M7040. I discovered its possible to "pass" the limitation nuts for the lever/raising/lowering by just force the lever to pass outside and pass the limitation nuts. Merry Christmas to all you out there.:)
