2013 Kubota M7040 4wd Hydraulic Shuttle
Hey guys I bought the Kubota block heater for my M7040 and my dealer said to install it on the right side of the engine behind the oil filter and fuel filter water separator in the pre threaded hole. I noticed that there is also a pre threaded freeze plug hole with a large Allen head on the left rear side of the engine just above the oil dip stick. My question is do any of you guys have a factory installed heater and where is it located on your tractor? Pics would be great if possible.
Thanks so much!

I have never needed a heater on my M7040 even during this extreme winter with temps of 20 below 0. Starts right up.

I had never needed one before this winter either. It was -27 degrees here one morning and had over a foot of snow to move and my tractor hadn't been started in over a month.

I know this is way old but did you ever install that block heater? If so, any pics or what hole did you use. Pretty easy install? I bought a used m7040 recently and am going to install one.

I have a 2012 M7040 which came new with a block heater.

It is on the left side of the engine mid to rear of the block. My impression is that it screwed in.

Should you install a block heater then you need to learn this trick to get instant starts

Kubota glow plug operation
In very cold weather, with the block heater plugged in, the glow plug sensor will lock out the glow plugs as it senses a warm engine.
However, starting, in these circumstances can be rough and worrisome as the engine is still inhaling very cold air.
The trick is to put the shuttle shift lever in forward and turn the key to the start position.
You will hear a relay click on. I count to 10, put the shuttle back into the neutral position and start the engine.
Makes an amazing difference.
On newer models, M7060 perhaps, Kubota realized the problem and provided software which would allow the dealer to set which sensor decided the GP on time. When owners of the M series tractors install their own block heater, they won’t get the software change and need to use the manual way to control the GP’s
I know there are GP work around on other Kubota models but I was only interested in M7040’s at the time.
I learned of this undocumented feature from a Kubota mechanic who was moving around many machines for snow clearing. It was very cold and the fact that he had no trouble getting them to fire caught my eye.

I have started my 2009 Kubota M6040 at -20F with no external assistance. Started right up. I ran it around the property for an hour - just to make sure it completely warmed up. Otherwise - I have found no reason, on God's green earth, to be out on my tractor when it's anywhere near that cold. I prefer a hot cup of chocolate laced with a good dose of Jack Daniels.

When we lived in AK - especially Glennallen - the lower radiator hose coolant heater provided better results than a block heater. Faster and heated more of the engine block. These were used in some extremely cold temperatures.
