The two year warranty on my M9960 ROPS will expire in about 6 weeks. The tractor has less than 50 yours on it so is not broken in.

I've noticed that the transmission howls upon starting under load, e. g., uphill, etc., until the tractor builds speed. It does so whether the start is a reversal start using the hydraulic shuttle or a reversal or standstill start using the foot clutch.

I've spoken to the dealer about this and have been told that the "howl" is normal for the 7060, 9960 and related tractor series. I have no reason to doubt what I've been told but thought I'd ask other owners if they hear the same "howl."

Perhaps, the tractor has straight-cut gears in the transmission or final drives. Such gears are noisy but will remain noisy even after up to speed when under load. My howl goes away after the tractor is up to speed but, perhaps the howl would remain if the load remained. I use the tractor only for mowing, so gear load is mostly acceleration.

I have the opportunity to buy the 2 year extended warranty if I do so before 10/30, so trying to determine if there is any cause for concern.

Any M9960 owners notice gear howl when under traction load?
