I have an opportunity to farm some state ground. I'm looking for equipment to farm RR Soybean in SW Michigan.
It is going to be around 200 acres initially, working toward 500+ acres. I've been asking everyone and looking everywhere to find the "best" size of equipment to use for these fields. I understand it depends on field conditions, etc. (primarily sand/loam based). However, I think somewhere out there is a recommendation based on size of equipment to acreage farmed. All help is appreciated! Thanks.

I'd visit a local ag machinery dealer (if me, my John Deere dealer because he came off a farm, farms on the side, and has been helping farmers make these decisions for about 25+ years and still has a lot of friends) and discuss the options to lease equipment, sized right to do what you need to do.

I'd be interested in why you are getting into farming 500 acres without the knowledge that you are asking about here, but I don't mean that to discourage you in any way. Sounds like an interesting adventure. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

How long would this opportunity last? You could have a lot of money tied up in it.

Anyway here's a link.
