Kubota BX 2200
Need your help. I just purchased this chipper and have to pick it up on Saturday. I am trying to figure out if it will fit in the back of a minivan. If anyone has one can you please take some measurements for me??

How high is it from the floor to the top of the hopper?
Can the hopper be taken off , if so, how hard is it to do, what size bolts?
How high is the unit without the hopper?
I have about 42" inches in height to fit it in the rear door.
How long is the unit, front to back with the PTO?
How wide is the unit?

Finally if anyone has a Kubota BX2200 what is the length of the PTO shaft?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Can not wait to get it home and start chipping.:D

Tom,

I have a TPH-122 and have made myself a note to go measure it. It's dark now and rained today; so I'd prefer not to traipse down there in the dark.

I'm quite sure it'll lay flat in the back of your van. The hopper is held on with 4 bolts. Should be easy to remove; nuts appear to be 7/16 to 1/2". One of the forum members has removed his to service the hammers. Hopefully, he'll chime in. My hammers have not required service and still have sharp edges, but I've sharpened the chipper blade (did it once myself and now send it out) 3 or 4 or many a half dozen times. Get yourself a good allen wrench that fits in a socket handle to use on the allen screws on the chipper. Don't recall the size. Those flimsy L-shaped allen wrenches just won't do. You'll also need a tiny tube of blue Loctite to put a drop on each thread when putting them back in.

You should be able to disconnect the PTO at the chipper shaft. Don't recall exactly what mine has there, but it'll flex over to the side anyway.

This thing is only about 160#; so 2 people can handle it easily to load and unload it. The chipper chute will also unbolt easily, if you need to to make it lie flatter.

Our chipper is 300 miles away or I would get you the measurements as well. If it is being purchased new (still in crate), it will easily lay flat in the van if the seats can be folded down or removed. The best I remember the crate was maybe 24"X30"X60". If it has been put together it will be bulky to handle but still be able to lay on it's side with the shute facing to one side of the van with the PTO facing the other. This would put the discharge side facing up.

A word of caution ........ The first time you put something in the shreader .... get your head out of the way and let it drop in. If not it will the slap the small limbs up side your head and your wrist will hit the lip of the shute. Even if you are a slow learner you won't do it but once or twice.

Thanks guys, I read all I could on this chipper on the web and here and got it sight unseen based on what u all have said. I am sure I will not be disappointed.:D Most of the stuff I have to chip is trimming branches, and a few trees that will need to come down in the next year or so. I have borrowed the neighbor's chipper several times and just "want" my own. I am sure some of you know how that works.:) The neighbor has a 11 hp gas Simplicity chipper/shredder, should be fun to have 16 hp diesel PTO turning the chipper.

I still haven't measured mine. Lots of things are keeping me busy now-a-days. Will try to do it tomorrow morning.

One thing I highly recommend is to buy some automotive heater hose, enough to go around the lip of the main chute and around the chipper chute. Use some nippers or large scissors and cut the hose up one side, lengthwise. Then push it onto the edge of the lips. I cut it into sections for each side of the chutes. 3/4" hose will be easier to cut. I used some automotive (plumber, etc. is same) Goop to keep it attached.

I did this on my TroyBilt and followed up in doing it on the MacKissic. This is after I experienced my wrists or arms being slammed into the edges of those lips by limbs being tugged into the machine. The TroyBilt seemed to be worse about this than the Mac, but it'll do it, too.

Here are some measurements:

o Skids (floor) to top of hopper = 50 1/2"

o Skids to bottom of hopper = 32 1/2"

o Depth from back to front of PTO frame = 41" For the PTO that fits my 4010, it sticks out past the frame another 18" or so, towards the tractor.

o Side to side = 24"

The bolts on both the hopper and chipper chute are 1/2". It'll lie flat on its right side.

I couldn't find my allen socket. I'm gonna be pissed next time I have to remove the chipper because I may have to go buy another allen socket.

Looks as though the PTO isn't easily removed from the unit like it is from the tractor. Have seen generators with quick-on PTO hardware at both ends.

Think with a BX you won't need the Cat 1/0 bushings like I have to use on my 4010. It may be Cat 1 on the lift arms and will need them there. TSC has the bushings.
