2005 New Holland TC48DA 2wd 12x12 tranny
I did some bush hogging a few weeks back and after getting burnt up, I decided to make a canopy. Buying a canopy was out of the question since I had limited door clearence in my shop (8ft doors). This canopy is made out of 14 ga sheet metal and 1in. square tubing. The side supports are made out of some scrape 1.5in square tubing I had. I did buy some u-bolts and new holland blue paint from my dealer. But I had to make the brackets for them to bolt the canopy to the ROPS. I had a friend at work drill them out for the 5/8" u-bolts. All in all, I'm happy with the end results. One concern I had was the new holland paint I got from the dealer. I knew it would not seal the metal from moisture. So, before I painted the canopy, I painted the canopy with POR-15 paint and them used the new holland paint to make it look like the rest of the tractor. The canopy is removeable if need be by undoing the u-bolts.

Cliff; Very nice job, and welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Is that a 2 wheel drive TC? Don't see many of them upnorth here. Looks like your a fabricator of sorts like most of us. Have you made any more tractor doodads?

Oh, and bless you my son, for not drilling/welding on your ROPS!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Cliff,

Looks nice and Sturdy, Cliff.

Now you will be working in the shade and protecting yourself more from Sun Damage and possible Skin Cancer.

So many people overlook, getting a canopy from the getgo, and don't realize how much more enjoyable, a canopy can make, in operating their tractor.

Get your tractors running &
Have a nice day,

Nice job. It looks better than some store bought canopies, that I have seen.
One thing, keep an eye on the welded joint between the uprights and the top. There is a lot of stress on that joint and if it starts to develop a crack you might be able to install a small brace, before it breaks.

John,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, it's a 2wd. I thought about the 4wd, but decided I didn't need it. Most of my land is flat and that is one factor that lead me too the 2wd unit (price was another factor). I just had a home built, so money is kind of tight right now. The only other things I've added is the rear lights, horn and a steering wheel knob. I plan on adding a radio and speakers, bigger tool box, and some lights on the loader bucket. I have purchased hooks for the bucket, but I ran out of gas for the welder. I had to go and get my tank filled. Hopefully this week, I'll get around to welding them on. Over the winter, I plan to add Top-N-Tilt.

Joe,
My dealer was going to put on a canopy before I got it. But I told him to wait until I measured the height of the ROPS and the height of my doors. Thanks goodness I didn't have that done cause it wouldn't have fit in my shop. If I did, I would have to modify the canopy that the dealer was going to put on. Plus, this canopy only cost me about $125 to build. I already had the POR-15 paint and the 1.5" square tubing. I do have enough material left over that I will be building me a canopy for my mower. I called my mower dealer two weeks ago and asked for pricing for a ROPS and a canopy for it and they quoted me $600. No thank you MR. dealer, I'll build me one before I pay that price. Yes, I'm a cheap skate...lol. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jerry,
I took that into consideration when I welded the the up-right to the frame of the canopy. I chamfered all of the edges so that I could have a thicker weld. Plus, I added a small piece for more support up under it.
