I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my old MS-200T and I have a new carb ordered for it.
Today I pulled the muffler off to look at the piston and it was pristine.
But, like a dumb ***, I hit the bottom of the saw and side with some air from a blow gun on the compressor
before it dawned on me that I had the muffler off. I looked at the piston and saw some tiny flecks of sawdust
on the piston skirt. I dont know if any got into the crankcase or not and I dont remember exactly what position the piston
was in when I hit the saw with air.

So, is this something that I need to be worried about and requiring a complete teardown ?

Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

you could probably remove the spark plug, turn the saw over and shake it - see if something falls out

there's nothing big in there at all. I'm just afraid that the small dust might hurt something if it got below the piston and into the crankcase.
Any small dust in the combustion chamber would get burnt up as soon as the saw fired up

I assume from your description that the piston is near BDC (exhaust port open). Remove the carb and hold the crank in position, then blow air in the intake port. That will blow through the crankcase, through the transfers then out the exhaust port.

It's the best chance of getting stuff out without taking it apart.

great idea

You can pull the spark plug and rotate the crank (after blowing it out as suggested above) to see if you can feel any extra resistance from material in the crank bearings. Likely that the friction from the piston would mask anything small but if there was a large chunk in there you might feel it.

Removing the cylinder would let you rotate the crank without the friction from the piston. And you could blow out the cases around the crank. That's assuming the saw has a regular cylinder/head that bolts on the cases and isn't a clamshell.

If I was pretty sure it was only sawdust and not dirt I'd try blowing out through the intake port and turning it to check, and hope that worked ok.

IF its a small amount of soft material it will probably go through engine with out it ever knowing it....

I'm late to the thread, but this is what I would do;
Remove the carb. Poor some mixed fuel in there. Block off the ports(2 clean rags) and give it a good shaking. The fuel will suspend the wood chips and dust. Unblock the exhaust port and poor the fuel out. Repeat if you think it is needed with clean mixed fuel. Blow out with clean conditioned air.
