Couple more questions regarding my 2615 HST:

1. Is the transmission fluid level checked while the engine is running?

2. Any recommendations on how to add 23 qts. of hy-trans from five gallon buckets? The filler hole seems to be in a difficult location. I'm guessing most will say a long funnel but figured I'd throw this one out there too see if there are any other ideas.

Matt, my dealer told me I did not need to replace the hy-trans oil at 50 hrs., just change out the filter. I will be doing my 200 hr. service on my 2615 in another 27 hrs. I will be wondering about filling from buckets too. Is it that much cheaper than buying in 1 gal. jugs?

The stuff I decided on (Chevron 1000 THF) only comes in 5/55 gallon buckets.

Adding the trans fluid is best done with a hand pump that fits the small, capped bung in the top of most plastic 5-gallon pails. If your fluid container does not have the correct lid, that can be purchased as well. The pumps are in the $30 range and are available at Tractor Supply, among other suppliers. Simply instert the pump, place the included transparent neoprene hose in the transmission fill hole, and transfer the fluid. Works great and is very clean. I'll bet the only way to pour fluid out of a five-gallon bucket is to use a ten-galllon funnel.

I bought a utility jug like this:

Utility Jugs

I than went to the hardware store and picked up 3' of 3/4" clear hose, a couple threaded fittings and an end cap (for clean dust free storage). This contraption, assembled, screws into the top of the threaded utility jug cap.

I use this same setup for diesel fuel. Works great and is far superior to the silly CA approved fuel containers.

P.S. So now could someone please tell me if a hydrostatic transmission's fluid level is checked while the engine is running (like an automobile) or not?

I have a Cub Cadet 7234, the Mitsubishi model made for Cub before Mahindra started selling them in Red. I’m quite sure my manual listed the CC Hydraulic Fluid for the front axle. When I did my 200 Hr service I went with HyTran, I think that is the Case brand. Cub or Mitsu are vague on the specs for the oil but the CC tractors were both previously sold by local Case dealers and HyTran is what they used whenever they serviced them. I would think any high quality Hydraulic Tractor fluid would be fine. I think HyTran is recognized as a pretty good fluid in the industry for many hydraulic applications from little tractors to excavators, etc. I almost used the Kubota UDT or Super UDT oil but it was a bit more expensive. 5 gallon buckets are about the easiest to handle for servicing. I normally pour it into a separate gallon+ container then use a funnel for the tighter sport, like the axle.
