Long time member but don't post much. I am preparing to purchase a new Mahindra. Some additional land is upcoming and after many happy, zero problem years with my circa 1986 yanmar it is time to upgrade. It was not an easy decision because my old yanmar has many features that you just cant find today and is so, so reliable. But I do believe it will be just a little small to manage everything I wish to complete in a timely manner.

Based on acreage, land contour, plus reoccurring and future tasks I had narrowed my choice down to the 1538 Shuttle. The 1533 shuttle was the runner up choice. All the literature I collected over the last 4 months shows the 1538 shuttle and 1538 hydro having the same hp. However, I recently logged into Mahindrausa and noticed a change. They now list different engine hp for these two transmissions. Shuttle engine hp is listed at 36.7 and hydro engine at 38.7. Again, all current printed literature shows the 38 shuttle and 38 hydro having the same engine horsepower.

If the 38 shuttle is really only 36.7 and the 1533 shuttle is still listed at 34.5 (both on website and in print), then I am now not sure the premium tag for the 38 shuttle is worth it for only 2.2 more hp. Dimensions, hydraulics and almost all other features are identical in printed media,... except that the 1538 has some bigger tires.

Does anyone know which power numbers are correct? Am I misunderstanding something?

The document I just looked at showed the 1533 had 34.5 hp and the 1538 at 38.7. http://mahindrausa.com/sites/default/files/tractor/pdf/22001 MAH541500 020415.pdf
Thank you for replying AB. That is absolutely correct as I have stated in my original post. The problem is not that the 1533 and 1538 have different engine hp.

I must not be explaining this correctly. The problem is that the 1538 shuttle and 1538 hst have two different engine hp ratings on the mahindra website. But if you go back to that document you just linked in your reply, both the 1538 shuttle and 1538 hst are listed as 38.7 engine hp on print media. Just like I posted.

Go to the website, select the 1538 shuttle, look at the very top right corner where it lists the msrp in a box. Box says 36.7 hp. The dealer did not know which was correct.

The 1538 shuttle is about $2800 more than a 1533 shuttle. I am not sure 2.2 hp is worth $2800 premium.

As for the discrepancies on the website and on brochures, I really do not know which one is correct. Perhaps you should contact Mahindra USA directly and get clarification. The rest of us do what you do, get a brochure or go to the web and I do see differences...not sure which one is absolutely correct.

The 1533 and 1538 are the same tractors, same engine, same loader, etc. Engine HP is changed via software. Tires are a size up on the 1538. BTW, the same engine is used in the 3550 as well, so 33-50 HP. For sure that makes this a pretty under-stressed engine at sub 40 HP. $2800 premium seems steep to me as well, and I'm a dealer!

I think it would be very hard to notice 2 hp on this size tractor.

This may help. This is a video from a Mahindra dealer in North Carolina. He has posted quite a few helpful videos for the Mahindra tractors.

I second your comment.

And that assumes that said tractor(s) would dynometer at spec if tested. Tractors do not. They generate power a bit above or a bit below the spec, varying individually and randomly as they roll off the assembly line.

Also, to reap assembly line efficiencies, tractors are assembled in production runs. The batch from which your tractor is shipped from the factory to your dealer MAY be 30 days to 60 days out of sync with the web page.
