Hi, I have a 2555 with backhoe. When I have the hoe mounted I push the hydraulic remote handle on the side of seat all the way forward so the hydraulic fluid flows to the backhoe controls so i can use them. When the backhoe is mounted i always leave the handle forward even when just driving around. I assume its not deadheading and heating up the fluid. (I hope I am right)??.

I want to get a log splitter to work off those same ports when the hoe is detached. Is there a specific type of splitter I should look for so the hydraulic fluid doesn't heat up when I am just driving around with the splitter attached but not in use? If I understand correctly the 2555 is open center valves??? :confused2:

thanks for any help and knowledge.

Mike

That set of ports typically can run a log splitter as it will be acting just like the BH in that the controls are move to the implement.
Most, after researching and seeing, realize the 3pt splitter isn’t that great. They cost about the same as a small engine splitter but lack the two stage pump. This equates to a very s l o w operation.....

The same hoses going to my back hoe, also run my splitter. I don't mind the slow operation compared to a stand alone. The splitter runs plenty fast for me, and my needs. I really prefer the quietness compared with a stand alone unit.

Now, if I needed to split more than two or three cords a year, or had a commercial operation, I might need a faster machine. For now, slow and steady goes far in a day.

Just make sure the valve on your logsplitter is an open center valve and you will have no problems.

Even with open center you should move your aux valve to the center when not using it...no sense sending oil through the splitter if you''re not using it and it will help prevent a major mess if you get a line caught on something and pull it off.
