Mahindra 2816 4wd
I'm having issues with my ignition system and have pretty much narrowed it down to the solenoid / starter. I have starter unbolted but can't clear it. There is an approx. 1" tube that looks to be part of the hydraulic system blocking it. The tube branches off to the rear of the pump where it is held in place by 3 bolts, then each end has a rubber hose connection with clamps. Am I safe in removing the tube? Any special instructions on getting the starter out?

Obviously I didn't get much response so here's what I did.....

The problem WAS the solenoid, which is available from several sources for anywhere from 130 to 150$$$$.

Instead of removing the hydraulic line, I removed the muffler and exhaust manifold. It really wasn't that hard to do. Then I took the starter out the top. It was still a little tight for maneuvering but not that bad.

Tractor is back in service and I'm heading out to disc a foodplot in my south pasture this afternoon.

Thanks for posting. I hope I don't need the information but since I have a 2615 (basically the same tractor) I may need this someday.

10 years as a dealer we have never removed a starter on a 2615/2816. Have never sold or replaced a starter on one of them. Issues with the 15 and 16 series tractors have been few and far between.

To LAWALLSTRACTOR: I guess either you're very fortunate or I'm very unfortunate. This tractor has less than 300 hours on it. I did speak with a local rancher/farmer who has a 2816 in his fleet of tractors and he had a starter go bad with less than 300 hours. I'm very thankful it was just the solenoid, after pricing starters!!!

I'm still very pleased with the tractor, so far, and hope this was an isolated incident.

But, you might be able to tell me where I can buy a Shop Manual for the 2816???

I agree. We have sold at least a couple of hundred 2615/2816 Mahindra's and have had only one starter failure. Obviously it happens, but it sure is rare.

The typical call for a several year old tractor that won't start is "hey, I need a starter, how much $$ and do you have it in stock, my tractor won't start". To which we answer, "clean your battery cables really well and makie sure all safety switches are working, then call me back." With rare exception, that does it.
