Mahindra 3215 HST
Hello, stripped my front drive (propeller) shaft again. Last year I just welded it up. This time around I purchased a new shaft and couplers. The diameter of the new shaft is larger than the old, which doesn't leave much clearance around the cover tube. Does anyone know if a new cover tube is 'fit' to the new shaft, or do they just run tight in the old tube? I would hate to spend another $120 just to get the same thing as I have. Any help is appreciated...

Sorry can't answer your question about the cover tube, but what could you be doing that would allow you to break the propeller shaft.

Just normal use. It is a known issue with these tractors. I have read a few threads on here concerning the Mahiindra stripping the front coupler, some guys say they are made soft to strip out.
Right now I am running it without the cover tube until I can get some straight answers. My local dealer is fairly new and has no idea. I don't want to special order one to have it be the same (and wrong) one as I have.

Your right about some others having issue with the propeller shaft, had to do a search. Since I've got the 2815, a another question about what happen.

(1) Was the tractor being used in 4WD when it broke the first time.
(2) Was the tractor on hard/packed soil/ no front tire slippage.

I'm just wondering if it could be acting like a 4wd vehicle with a transfer case
that would wind-up if used in low range on hard surface if the distance is substantial and you would have to backup to release the wind-up affect on it, other wise you could end up breaking an axle if the front tires have no slippage.
Then the coupler which seems to fail could be their way of stopping axle or differential breakage.

The tractor is primarily used in mid-range, 4WD, except on the road and pulling into the buildings. I believe it may just be a design flaw in these models, otherwise Mahindra wouldn't have beefed up the shaft. Perhaps the new couplers are better grade also? All I can say is that the new components are all Mitsubishi parts, not sure about the originals. On a note, I have had my little Kubota B7100 for 15+ years. It has basically the same front drive system, with no problems to date. My Belarus tractor is a different animal completely, rough and tough, no problems there either (with the drive anyway).

I too stripped the front drive. Like you I welded the couplers and have the new replacement parts. I was concerned about running without the cover tube due to the elements. Mine broke in 20''s of snow. I think its a wear issue on the couplers that lead to failure at the worst possible time. Murphys law! Still running welded without the tube. So far no issues. Anyway I have spare parts when it fails again.

Have you compared the new parts to the old? I would like to know if your parts fit (too) tight in the in the cover tube, or did you buy a new tube also?
At least I'm not th only one. Maybe Mahindra should do a recall on the propeller shaft also. I already had my FEL recall taken care of.

I lost my propeller shaft and pinion gears on a brand new 3016, less than 10 hours. I wrote it up on the "Review your Mahindra" thread.

I still have my new parts in the packing. I will look to see if they have part #s and post them.
