PTO Will not engage. Lite burn on control but will not engage. Mahindra 35 series.

Not a lot of information there.
What have you checked so far?
Rear or Mid PTO or both??
How old is tractor?
How many hours?
Last serviced when? By whom?
etc.

On most Mahindra tractors with electric PTO there is also a mechanical shift lever which needs to be engaged before the button is pressed.

I don't think the PTO button will light up if the PTO knob isn't set to MANUAL or AUTO. Looking at the wiring diagram in the operator's manual, the 3 way knob-switch is first, then the push button, then a relay, then a solenoid.

If you have the PTO knob set on AUTO, the PTO doesn't kick on until you lower the 3 point lift arms. If you have it on MANUAL, it will be on any time the PTO button is pressed. Auto is great for stuff like rototillers that only need to run while setting on the ground, but is mostly useless otherwise.

I have only a crude system, which sounds as if it's better than the fancy system.

Not sure I'd call it a "fancy" system as it is pretty basic. It doesn't use mechanical linkages that can become bent or bound, so being able to take a quick glance and "SEE" a problem is less likely. But, if you can read a volt meter and follow a wire, it becomes pretty simple to "SEE" where the issue is. I'd personally rather repair a wire or swap a component than have to deal with complex linkages that are bent or rusted.

Fact the PTO button lights up says he's getting power through the fuse and the three way selector to that button, so the diagnostics are halfway completed. Ensuring the three way selector is set to MANUAL rather than AUTO would be the next step. Tracing the wire from the switch to the relay and solenoid would be the final step. Where the power stops is where the issue is...

Right underneath the floor board where your right foot rests there is a electrically operated hydraulic solenoid. Make sure a stick or something has not just pulled the wires off the connector... easy to do when you are out working... Those sticks are pretty tricky what they can tear up.... like they were born to the task... :)

I think when they are just little twigs...not far from being just a bud.... their parents start teaching them how to react when they are bigger sticks. How to lay down playing dead, all the time waiting for the right moment to reach up and cause havoc with the monster mechanical things that are passing back and forth overhead... Just to get back at the man for not being allowed to grow up and be part of a pallet somewhere in a far off field ... [ :) ]

Same thing happened to me. I posted the fix to it back during this past winter. Assuming that you get power to the coil and the coil is working, you'll need to reset the spool valve. The reset is behind a plug on the valve body.

I had the same issue on my 3550. It was a bad ground.

(Also had a wiring harness in the cab go bad shortly thereafter so I
have some concerns on the factory wiring)
