Hello all!

I have been lurking here for awhile trying to educate myself on tractors and options. I have wanted to upgrade from my old Ford 2000 gas tractor. My field is nothing but grass and I was plumb fed up with having more brush hog than tractor. (old Ford 2000 and 5 foot heavy duty brush hog with 1/2" blades) That poor old Ford struggled so bad and didn't have low enough gearing to take it slow. I also needed a FEL. I have eyed the Mahindras for awhile. Finally I bought one.

So first, thanks for all of the insight. It was really nice to read and learn here. I feel like I was able to make a much more educated choice.

So now, the request for help. :D

I bought a 2010 Mahindra 3535 with the fel. I bought a new 5 foot standard duty brush hog without the clutch. (oops...) I finally got the tractor delivered and with a big old grin i jumped on it to give it a try. She fired up like a dream. I pushed the pto button and bang! The sheer pin in the brush hog bit it in 1/10th of a second. I wasn't all the way idled down but it wasn't revved either. I drove into town the next morning and got a grade 8 bolt to put back in. It worked (i used very low idle to start it) but it sounds really scary when it fires up. Talk about a hard starting son of a gun... I learned here about the accumulator fix for the hard starting pto.

The question is how do I know if mine already has the upgrade? The dealer thought it did. I am concerned about running other implements and damaging them. I will get the slip clutch added to my brush hog but that doesn't help any other implements.

It has the auto pto mode but I wouldn't dream of trusting it with a tiller or anything. I get the feeling it will break stuff. :mad:

Thoughts or advice?

8 grade bolt as a shear pin is a no no, you need a weak link. :(

I agree with Jim, that grade 8 bolt for a shear bolt isn't a idea. Look under your right foot rest and see if there is a little metal tank under there. If there is then the tractor is up to date.

Hmm... Well sounds like I am headed back to the hardware store for some grade 2 bolts. Thanks for the advice on that.

I don't see the accumulator there. Am I looking in the right spot?

Brother, that grade #8 bolt for a shear pin is harder that most of the other pto componets, thoughs #2 or #3 shear pins are cheaper that an internal parts. I thinks I would be talking to the dealer or dealer reps.

Use grade 5 bolts, grade 2 are to weak grade 8 are to strong. I have used grade 5 for several years with no problems.

the way your are describing it is doing the same thing mine did before I had it fixed with the accumulater issues. no issues since it was fixed but prior to that it started so hard. I think it was even shearing of grade 5 in a second.

Can you post a picture of the accumulator? I am pretty sure mine doesn't have it but I would like to be armed with information before I call the dealer back up to fix it. He didn't seem sure of what I was talking about when I mentioned this to him.
