I guess one advantage right away for Mahindra is no DPF and no regen. Mahindra is about $1500 more expensive and dealers are about the same distance.

Try them both out and see how they fit you ergonomically. What will you be using the machine for? Mahindra is overall a heavier machine, with a stronger loader (and higher lift) and higher capacity hydraulic pump. It also has larger tires than the LS.

In general I really like my 3550, and by this point I think they've worked out all of the bugs. I have about 650 hours on mine since 2014. If you have any questions specific to that model I will try to answer them.

What kind of bugs did you have? Just using it around the house - spreading mulch and gravel along with scraping gravel driveways, plowing a small garden, some loader and box scrape work on a go kart track behind the house. Plugging and sowing yards.

While the 3550 is technically a compact tractor, it's quite large/heavy. I wouldn't classify it as an "around the house" tractor. You may be able to save some money going with a 1538. Not sure about the comparable LS model. I looked at LS when I was shopping but chose the 3550 because of the increased weight and performance.

Do you no longer have the TC40? I would just stay with it for what you want to do if it were me.

The 3550 is a different class size of machine vs the XR4150. Not really comparing apples-apples here.

Just my :2cents:

I agree. Any of the 1500 series tractors would do the work that 4tillingdirt listed. Less weight and cost, and those Mitsubishi built tractors are first rate.

Unless he needs significantly more PTO HP, the 1526 would do fine. No computer controls or other emissions stuff to worry about either. If he needs more HP, then there's the 1533 and 1538 to choose from.

The LS equivalent of the 1526 is the XG3025. Same Mitsubishi engine as what's in the 1526. Somewhat better loader than what's on the 1526.

Both are available with a 3 range HST or shuttle shift (manual) trans. The LS XG3135 and XG3140 are roughly equivalent to the 1533 and 1538.

That TC40 is my brother's tractor. If you jump up to the 1533 or 1538 do they weigh more than the 1526 and the same for the xg3025 to a 3135 or 3140? I tried to look at the specs for the xg3025 but it doesn't have the xg3025 on the sheet. I guess I am like so many others - always think about the what ifs and maybe get something too large.

Maybe consider something in the 40-45hp range? Those typically have an over 2000lb lift range for a loader. The 3540 is about a 1000lbs lighter than the 3550 and has an excellent 2700lb lift on the loader. Still pretty big for what you need though.

An LS XR4046 would make for a very nice machine for around the home. 2500lb lift on the loader, a bit smaller all around than the Mahindra 3540. It comes down to just what exactly do you WANT?? :confused3:

So the 3550 is that much larger than a LS XR4150?

I guess it comes down to more of what I need that what I want. Heck, I want all the tractor I can buy so long as it isn't too large for the stuff I plan on doing with it. I was looking at the 3540 and according to this - http://mahindrausa.com/sites/default/files/tractor/pdf/23858 MAH543500 3500 Ser Bro 012417_0.pdf - the 3540 is about 260 lbs lighter.

The one thing about the xr40 series is they have a year less on warranty. Dealer told me that the XR 40 series still have a shibaura engine while the 41 series have a 6 year warranty and have an engine that LS built. Who knows if one is better than the other.
