First day of working with my "new" 2012 Mahindra 4025 4WD. Has about 1120 hours on it.
I reversed to drag and spread some gravel up a slight hill using the loader. When I depressed the clutch to coast back down for the next pull, with the transmission still in reverse, the clutch pedal still pushed, and the tractor coasting slowly forward, the drive clutch suddenly "popped" and tractor jerked to a stop hard enough that the hood briefly popped up. Clutch pedal was still depressed, but now doesn't feel like its connected to anything (except the second stage / PTO, at the bottom of the pedal travel, which still works apparently normally). Worst part is the tractor kept running and stayed in gear, but it wasn't going anywhere. That seems like a really bad thing.
Clutch pedal now floats and feels like it is not connected to the drive clutch at all. Tractor runs and gears seem to be turning (noisy with gentle pressure to put into gear) but I don't know whether they're really connected to the engine, or whether just spinning a little due to friction or perhaps slight clutch plate friction. I was able to ease it into first gear at low rpm to move out of the road. The tractor moved and seemed to respond to throttle movements on level ground and downhill, but when I turn up hill even slightly the tractor won't move under its own power at all. It will pull freely with a truck but no power to the wheels.
Anyone seen this? Is there perhaps a shear pin in line somewhere to protect against this sort of thing, or have I likely destroyed one or more gears? Or the clutch assembly? Thanks all.
