Mahindra 4110
I have a Mahindra 4110 with FEL that is about 6 years old. It has 140 hours on it and has been serviced yearly since I don't put enough time on it to go by the hourly recommendation. When I cranked it this morning to load it on the trailer the loader jerks when moving up and tilting the bucket back. downward movements are smooth. I drove it around the yard for a few minutes to let everything warm up but after about 5 minutes the steering was also jerking when turning and the loader action would shake the whole tractor. The 3PH also jerked when moved up. It felt like there was air in the lines like when there is air in water lines after repairing a line. It had been sitting about 3 weeks in the barn and everything worked normally last time it was used. Hydraulic fluid is clean and full. Is there anything simple this could be or should I take it to the dealer? I am mechanically competent but have no experience with hydraulics.

I would change the hydraulic filter and fluid first.

You either have a problem with the suction side of the hydraulics or with the pressure regulator sticking. On my 2001 model, I have a large metal canister under the tractor that houses the cartridge type suction filter. This canister has the hose/pipe that runs up to the hydraulic pumps. There is also a metal screen type filter in the bottom of the trans that is before this cartridge filter, I've removed mine before and cleaned it but you lose all your hydraulic fluid to clean/replace either of these filters. The pressure relief valve is mounted to the right side of the center trans. case, I have never had to adjust mine in 2350 hours but would have to buy a high pressure gauge to check it and do any adjustments to system pressure. My 4110 has a little bit of stutter in the hydraulics upon first starting, especially in cold weather, but mine has always cleared-up within 30 - 60 seconds of use. Since you say the power steering is stuttering too, I would lean towards a problem on the suction side as I think the system pressure for the p/s is seperate from the main hydraulic system. My p/s does not stutter when the FEL or 3pt does, I think my stutter is caused by the regulator wear/adjustment. Good luck with your diagnosis and let us know what you find.

Check all of the rubber hoses and connections on the suction side of the pump.

Thanks guys, I looked at all the hoses today for leaks but couldn't see anything that was wet or oily. I was alone so I couldn't see them while it was operating. I have filters and will change the fluid and everything and let you know how it goes.

Have you fully cycled all the hydraulics through their full ranges of motion several times to purge any air or contaminates? An old FEL I worked with once upon a time had to have everything cycled a half dozen times to start acting right about once per week.
