I have a mahindra 4500 4wd, has 3 cylinder engine. It has always crank as soon as it turns with no problem until now. I was using it to spray fence line when all at once it puff black smoke. Now when you crank the engine it will turn and turn like it is trying to pick up fuel and puff black smoke. When it does start running the smoke clears up till you give it fuel and it smokes like you are lugging the engine. Drove it to the shop up a hill it has always climbed in high side 2nd gear, today i had to get in low 4th and it smoked real bad all way to top. I have change fuel filter, fuel lines, air filters and it is good clean fuel in tank. I could really use help with this, Thanks

Does it have a ton of something restricting flow out of the tank? Also confirming it only has 1 fuel filter?

I drain tank when I replace fuel lines so no restrictions out of tank. It has duel canister filters both new. Will add this I just noticed that it has more blow by than I remember

Is it a turbocharged engine?

It’s sounding like a plugged intake or an injector that isn’t closing. I don’t know what a stuck EGR would do in that engine.

Not A turbo engine. Took pipe off from air filter to intake no obstruction. Got it started, set rpms on 1000 then i went to each injector and crack the line and it done the same on all three made engine miss. Is there a another way to check the injectors and were would i find EGR on this engine?

So at 1000rpm and no load was it smoking? Or just smoke under load?

I don’t know where the EGR is specifically. Obviously it’s got to connect the exhaust to the intake via a tube that is typically metal. They typically have electrical plugged into them.

My injector comment was in relation to it being stuck open. Typically black smoke would be an over fuel/under intake air condition. Blueish is more indicative of burning oil and white is water/coolant.

And just confirming it’s not something “easy” like a bad load of fuel.

It’s probably a good sign that cracking each injector made the engine miss the same with each one. That would lead me to believe it’s not something mechanical like a burnt valve or something else that’s pouring unburned fuel into the exhaust.

Smokes just under a load when rpm's level out it clears up

OK when you try and start engine it acts like it is on air or no fuel. turn it for a bit it will pick up and run. if a injector is stuck open would that cause it to seem to be on air

I’m not sure what you are asking.
