I have put about 60 hours on my new Mahindra 5010 HST Cab and thought I would share my thoughts on its performance. This is my second Mahindra bought new, the first was a 2615 gear 4WD and I was very impressed at the power that little tractor showed me over the year. The 5010 is a beast and getting older I love the HST, in Med range I can do most anything I want and have plenty of power. One thing I like is the button I can push that increases the throttle automatically if I start working and need more power, better than killing the motor and having to restart. The hydraulics are very strong, in fact, I found out they are strong enough to destroy the hydraulic cylinder on the grapple, I now know the limitation.
Every dealer should highly recommend that the rear tires be filled before it every leaves the lot. With the shorter wheel base and the power of the hydraulics on the loader you have to do it. I decided to wait and see, well I learned in the first hour of use it was necessary so I had a local tire dealer come out and fill to 90% with RimGuard, made a big difference.
The cab is very roomy and the AC on a 90 degree day will freeze me out if I don't turn it down. It is pretty quiet, all of the controls are comfortable and easy to get to during operations.
Positives:
Power is remarkable
Good traction
HST performs well
Good Visibility from the cab in all directions
Strong hydraulics
Cab roomy, AC strong
Negatives:
FEL issue with rolling the bucket, it seems to hesitate or just stop working during a roll action with a load
No toolbox and not an obvious place to add on has been found yet
Plans for future:
Toolbox add somewhere on the tractor (ideas appreciated if you have the same tractor and have solved)
Tint the windows a little darker, not that it is a cooling problem, just feel it will reduce the amount of sun coming in
Third function for the FEL to replace the need to use the hoses running from the rear remotes
Big mistake made:
Wife recently said maybe you needed a bigger tractor, sure wish that would have been said before I decided on this one, I am happy, but we all know BIGGER IS ALWAYS BETTER.
