Mahindra 5035HST w/loader, J.D.855 w/loader, McCormick CT28H w/FEL
Two questions: What is the difference between an SK and the ML 130 loader? On the line of Mahindra attachments, they list the ML 130. I did not see the SK listed anywhere.

Dealer quoted me a price on the Mahindra 5035HST with SK loader for $26,300. Does this sound reasonable?

Thanks! Rob

Price sounds OK. Mine came with the ML130 Quick Attach loader standard [made by KMW in Kansas], don't really know what the SK is.... Get you a set of QA pallet forks, worth their weight in gold. Good luck, and have fun looking.... :) The HST is a real PLUS on a tractor of this size when manuvering in close quarters.

The "SK" references Skid Steer compatible. The ML130 loader is only available in "SK" fashion.

So it may well be equiped with the ML130 loader after all. Thanks for the clarification. Just waiting on one last quote on a N.H. and if that one is to high, it looks like the 5035 will be the one.

Upgrading from a tired old J.D. 855, which has performed admirably. It has served above and beyond what it was built for. Excellent little tractor, or "glorified lawnmower", as my neighbors call it. As for service, bad experiences 3 out of 4 times, which is the main reason I'm looking at other brands. Sorry! I still like their tractors though. Rob

Well, got the quote on the N.H., although not the one I inquired about. They stopped offering the smaller version. Anyway, the quote for the larger T4030 PS with loader is $33,750. It's a lot more tractor than the Mahindra I am looking at (different class, I know) and the price reflects it, too. Didn't hurt to ask. More than I wish to spend. Really looks like a 5035 Mahindra in my future. Just hope if I load it up on weight, it will have enough power!?!

The only time that you may be short on power assuming you ballast it to 8000lbs would be in 12th gear up hill. So other than driving it up the road some where, I'm pretty sure that you will be fine. Or are you getting the HST? Then all bets are off, I am not familiar at all with larger HST tractors. Most likely would be fine though. ;)

Rob,
I've got just over 100 hours on my 5035 shuttle. No worries on power. It's an awesome tractor.:D

What type of work to you plan to do with it?

Will get the HST, all the way. If it was not for that option, I would still be looking at larger tractors, which is where I began this search.

I will be preparing about 8 acres by moving around 200 stumps into a pile for burning, along with LOTS of downed limbs from a tornado hit, earlier this year. Hired a trackhoe guy for digging the stumps out, then realized (thanks to a TBN member here) that I can pile them myself with a root grapple. Why didn't I think of that? Some of the clearing to be done is on a hillside, while another area is rather boggy.

Other tasks will include regular moving of round bales out to horse pastures, periodic flood control, some smaller road building and plenty of posthole digging. Already have most of the implements for it.

Would be nice to one day bale hay, but realistically, that probably will not happen. If I ever did, it would medium rounds or square bales. Not a consideration at this point, because of equipment costs.

Ahhh. Grapple-time! Lotsa fun. I've been doing much of the same on my place. Get your rear tires filled and a grill guard for sure.

How many of you have filled your front tires, too?

I am interested in this also, as far as I know there are only 5-6 of us on TBN that have acknowledged that we have filled our fronts also. I know that the few of us that have, have been happy that we did.

Just an FYI: My Kubota manual specifically says not to fill the front tires, but doesn't say why not. I know, it's Kubota, maybe Mahindra and/or others say differently.

My dad seems very happy with his ~10 year old Mahindra 4110. It doesn't have quite the fit/ finish/ attention to detail of my Kubota, but it is certainly as capable (or more so?) of doing all the same tasks mine can do. It's a heavy, powerful machine.

Grapples: The dealer wanted almost $4,000 for the one on his lot. I can get it online and delivered for about half that. Question: Do I need to have the tractor somehow set up for using a grapple or do the grapples come with the required hardware for this? IF they don't, then what is the cost of a kit and how hard is it to set up? Thanks for any info. Rob

Jumping in here. I don't own a Manhindra, yet, but my Ford 3550 is looking for a calm pasture so it's time to let her rest. I am looking at a 5035 (new) and the one on the lot has industrial tires. Any noticable difference in the Ag tires or industrial tires? I am in a little bit of mud when I am down by the pond, mostly grassy pasture and dirt.

Thanks for the feed back.

If your not going to be working on the lawn then Ags definitely provide more traction but really tear up lawns, if you want a happy medium Industrial is the way to go. They tend to get bogged with mud though..

I'm not going to say that R4s don't fill up with mud, but I think that most of the guys that complain about the mud problem are guys that have smaller tractors. The larger R4s are no where as bad as the smaller ones when it comes to clogging up with mud. The 19.5 x 24 R4s that come on the 5035 are on the larger size.

Just something else to consider. ;)

Good insight. Thanks. I don't like spending money and not getting what I really need so I'm trying to find the right tractor. Pretty challenging up in Alaska though. We have a kubota, 2 new holland and an LS dealer. Our Branson dealer has a hard time getting Branson to help out with service issues so he's reluctant to move Bransons, which I commend him for.

Not saying Branson is a bad tractor, but if you move a product and people can't get good service work the reflection is not only on the brand but the dealer I think.

I have been finding tractors in the south and eastern US but shipping is up to $10,000 so not an option.

Check with TBN member AKfish. He is in Alaska and he bought a John Deere from the lower 48. He may be able to help you out with some info.

There are different qualities to mud. Sandy mud is easy. Mucky mud will turn any R4 into a slick. ... I did note that the rear R4s on the 7520 are much more aggressive than the fronts. The fronts should be made that way as well. Makes them kinda R1 ish.

If you want to, you can find pictures of lots of R1s that are slicks also. IMO, when the mud is that bad, MOST people really should not be out in it anyway. All you end up doing is damage to the land and you have accomplished nothing. If you have to go out in it to feed the animals, you should be aware of those conditions and make adjustments as needed.
