Help!

It's a long weekend and I was hoping to cut back some brush on my land...especially around my pond where I need to be going forward and back frequently. My PTO fuse has been blowing when I put my tractor in reverse. It doesn't happen every time, and usually happens when there is little to no brush to put it under load. My tractor is a 5035 with the PST transmission. I am using a 6 foot cutter. and I have my PTO set to "manual".

Has anyone run into this problem, and do you have a fix? My tractor was purchased less than a year ago and has less than 100 hours on it. It is covered under warranty, but I am hoping to work this weekend. I am worried that something might be shorted out and I don't want to do additional damage...I am on my third fuse this weekend already...

When I was hacking into my wiring harness to install an illegal wiring change [ emergency brake beeper ].... I noticed that that there is a spot just under the right footrest where there could be a problem. The wiring harness for the PTO goes thru the firewall on the right side... and goes down under the floor on the right side. At that point there are several connectors... and the wires are unprotected by wire loom at that point. If someone yanked on the harness.. or if it were installed too tight... it could rub on the fairly sharp edge of the floor and short out. Mine was loose enough.. but I put an extra piece of wire loom onto my cable to make sure it did not rub. Not saying that is your problem.. could be lots of things.. but worth looking at... :) Mine is a HST, with the PTO solenoid to the right of the Xmission... yours is probably in the same general area.

I think I can help. The shuttle lever rubs the wires coming out of the pto switch. Pop the switch out and inspect the wires, it doesn't take but a little wire exposed to blow the fuse. Tape the bare spot up and I think you will be good to go. You may want to give your dealer a call about adjusting or rerouting the wiring.

OldGinTractors, you were right! I had noticed the shuttle lever had a shiny spot where the paint had rubbed off. Taking your advice, I removed the button and found a frayed wire. I wrapped in electrical tape for now and will have dealer address when I take it in next time.

Now...to figure out why the fuel gauge is messed up........
