Mahindra 5500 4WD won\'t start

I have a 5500 4WD with only 12 hours on the unit. Today I adjusted the play in the clutch and brake pedals, greased the zirts and serviced the battery for the winter. I added H2O, cleaned the terminal posts and placed a 2 Amp trickle charge on the battery for about 2 hours. Now it won't start. The starter will not turn-over. The lights and guages work fine. Could I have blown a fuse between the starter and ignition switch? If so, where is the fuse for the starter? Is there a limit switch that I may have rest when I adjusted the clutch pedal play? I had the PTO, transmission and shuttle shifter in the neautral position. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

BTW I'm new to posting on the board, but I lerked for a few months prior to my purchase. I also have Kubota M6800 which is a fine tractor, but I'm not sure that it's worth the extra $$$. $ for $ and # for #I think the Mahindra is a great tractor. All of the positive comments on this board influenced me in my purchase of the 5500. So far I'm very happy, now just help me get it running again

Re: Mahindra 5500 4WD won\'t start

First off, I think that this site is playing games with my mind. I answered this post in the "Parts & Repair" forum and previewed my post and all was well. I then went back to find it to add something, and it was gone..... now it shows up here in the Mahindra Forum and my post isn't with it.... Not nice to play with an old mans mind like this..... Now for the answer a second time... and if the moderators are playing games with me, let me know and I will take whatever few marbles that I have left and go home...... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The answer is......... Can't help you on the specific tractor brand, but general rules still apply. Turn on the headlamps and turn the ignition key... if the headlamps dim, then it is a battery problem. If the headlights don't dim, then it is a open switch, such as a seat switch, PTO switch, etc. Check everything twice and then again and you will usually find that you missed something simple. New tractors do have battery failures also...

Re: Mahindra 5500 4WD won\'t start

If shuttle, gear shift and pto (both clutch and IPTO lever) are in neutral, it may be in the timer relay located next to starter. I think there is a fuse there, but not positive.

Re: Mahindra 5500 4WD won\'t start

Problem solved!!! Apparently when I adjusted the brake pedals, I dislodged the transmission's neutral saftey switch located under the right-hand side of the tractor. It's also concievable that the connector could get dislodged while bush hogging in tall brush. This appears to be a poor design location for the switch. Therefore, if your tractor wont start when everything is in neutral, check under the right side of the tractor for this connector switch. Thanks for the replies.
