Mahindra 3016
I own a 3016 Mahindra with a 3 point hitch finish mower. I'd like to remove the blades and sharpen them, but can't seem to figure it out. No help from dealer or Google, so I thought I'd try here. It seems the bolts connecting the blades are 26MM, but I cannot get any wrenches to the top bolt to keep the blade from spinning. The manual is not much help. Any ideas?

impact wrench?

Maybe block of wood to wedge the blade from moving

on my ZTR, nothing locks the blades, I just buzz the bolts off the blade end of the spindles with an impact (and put em back on the same way). hand tools generally won't work for this, but if that's all you have, a wrench and a dead blow or mini sledge might do it. just watch out for the other blade if you do it that way.

I just removed mine and sharpened them a couple of days ago. I used a 2x6 braced against the housing to stop the blade from spinning. The next issue is figuring out whether the shaft is right hand thread or left hand. It took a 4 foot cheater bar to break loose the nut, then it was easy sailing.

Thanks for the help, guys - I'll try the block of wood and see if I can get the blades to stop spinning around while I crank on the nut holding the blade. I'm not sure if they are reverse threads or not...

Finally got one of the blades off with my breaker bar, a 26MM socket and a 4x4...now my grinder went out! It looks like if I could have gotten a wrench up on the top spindle, it would have been 32MM. I also found out the threads are normal.

None of this is in the owners manual..

impact wrench?

My neighbor had a grinder he let me borrow, along with an electric impact wrench and 1 1/8 high impact socket and that worked great!

It is a good feeling when that job is done... my top covers (over the belt and pulleys) would not come off. The bolt that goes through the deck rusted enough that the plastic knob just turned and the bolt did not. Tore the plastic off, got the bolts out, repaired the belt tensioner and adjusted belt. Now with the sharp blades and tight belt, I have a chance in the 6' tall grass. I am fighting a swamp also since we had a very wet winter and the water is not staying in the ditch. Perhaps later in summer/fall I will have an opportunity to enlarge ditch so water has a chance to stay in.. The deer and coyotes love it since they have some good hiding spots.

impact is the only way usually to get them off.
