Mahindra Glow Plug Issues

Sorry if this is a redundant post. I read thru the similar posts and unable to find the specific info I need.
Brand new Emax25 bought off the lot the end of december. Will not start when cold.
Cranks fine, belches black smoke, wont kick over.
Glowplug dash light comes on, relay clicks, and 12V at the nut (Bar that connects the plugs).
My plug on time seems long, as its prob 30 sec or more.
Also I'm not sure about the process of turning the key to the left to activate the plug. The manual says to just turn the key to the left, not how long, etc.
After a warmer day (50 or so) I can get it started with some difficulty, but today and yesterday, no luck.
The dealer says it should be warranty (Duh) but guess who has to pay to get it there? They said Mahindra doesnt cover transportation and I guess they don't do anything Mahindra doesn't pay for.
To test the plugs: I'm assuming there are 3, since its a 3 cylinder engine, if I remove the power wire from the nut and test continuity to ground, what should I be looking for, or should I test them individually?
If I use a clamp-on meter, what DC amperage should I find.

Thanks for any help. I know I should be sending it back to the dealer, and I'll be dealing with that on another front.

Oh, BTW, was concerned about fuel issues, so I drained all the fuel out, cleaned the filter and refilled it with fresh fuel from a brand new can.

Hi. Welcome.

To test the glow plugs unhook the power wire and ohm the glow plug from the top post to the block. You should get near zero or zero ohms. If you get open then the plugs are probably bad.

May want to look for a new dealer as well. They could send someone out to test the plugs for you or determine the problem without hauling it in.

Update:
Measured at 1.2 OHMS. They seem to be working. Ready for the weird part? If i try to raise the bucket when I crank it over, it starts right up. If I don't it just cranks and smokes.
Thought it was a fluke but now it did it twice. I'm going to wait till its cold later and see if it does the same thing.
Can this be possible?

I don't know if your tractor uses a KSB,solenoid which sometimes has an associated timer. A KSB is a device that changes the timing of a diesel when you first start it. When you raise the loader during the start, you are loading the motor some an maybe having something to do with the effective timing. The newer computer based injection systems probably do not have or need of a KSB, because they can change the timing with the computer. If you have an older tractor, look to see if you have two wires going to your injection pump. One will be your fuel shutoff solenoid, and the other will be the KSB solenoid.... The timer that controls the KSB [ usually called a KSB timer ] is probably bad. You should also see this KSB and timer on your electrical print.

Sounds like your describing a deadheaded hydraulic system.

If the hydraulic system is dead headed the engine is fighting the hyd. pump to crank at full speed. This can be caused by power beyond lines not connected. draft sense feedback linkage. Line blockage. :confused3:
