Tractor
none yet
this will be my first tractor purchase and hopefully my only tractor purchase. I've looked at the kubota grand L 4330 HST and the mahindra 4530 shuttle shift. the 4530 seems to be alot more tractor than the kubota but im not sure about the reliabilty of the mahindra. the price I've been quoted on the 4530 w/fel, HD 6'mohawk chief shredder, HD 6' box blade is $20,300. Is this a good price and a dependable tractor?

257wbymag,

Welcome to TBN. I think if you go back and fill in your profile letting us know the where abouts of where you live the people in your area will be able to help you better. Tractor prices vary from area to area.

I think the Mahindra tractor is a good tractor. But I would find out from your dealer how long he has had the line giving you a idea of how long he will have the line. Kutota has been around for a long time and has for the most part well established dealers. This is important as you will need parts as time goes on. Again I am not knocking the Mahindra, everything I have heard about is good.

I'm a Kubota guy personally. But I think Mahindra makes a great tractor. My neighbor has a 4005 with about 200 hrs. on it and he loves it! They are built really heavy and seem to be good all around tractors. Like Murph said... the dealer is an important factor. Did you get a quote on a Kubota?

257,
the Kubota is now well established but once was a startup company. It is a big beefy machine with some nice refinements. It lacks the most modern of design acoutrements. It will last a long time in the hands of a casual user.
The Mahindra is also a big beefy machine that I suspect will also last a good long time.
No doubt the Mahindra is lower priced.
If you believe it is an equal machine on the surface and the capacities are acceptable then the decision is obvious.
Go try them both doing what you intend to use them for. Do so several times. If you get treated like a pest then that is indicative of what yiu may experience in the future. I think you will be pleased by either as long as you accept the difference between HST and the shuttle.
Best of luck,
Martin

I got a quote on a grandL 4330HST and it was $17,500 just for the tractor.I've been told that a FEL is about 4k and a HD brush hog and HD box blade is about $2500 together. That will put the bubota around 4k more than the mahindra. If the mahindra is 5700lbs and the kubota is around 3500lbs wouldnt the mahindra out work the kubota as far as FEL and Box blade work or is the Weight difference not that big of a deal? Thanks for your replies.

If your interest is purely in weight and listed power, go to Rural King and buy one of their Tractor King tractors with a Koyker loader. You will get more weight and hp for your money by far.

You'll find the Mahindra to be very reliable, and at about 7000 lbs curb weight with the loader and 2900 lbs lift capacity on the FEL, it's a brute. The downside is that it takes a little more truck and trailer to haul this around, and it sure isn't for mowing lawns.

The Mahindras seem to be pretty well built, and they use Mitsubishi and Daedong engines depending on model. I personally don't care for any Mitsu engines, gas or diesel, but many others swear by them.
To me the Mahindra, for the money, is the better deal, but they are certainly both quite capable machines.
Yes, in my opinion, the weight difference is significant for FEL and Boxblade work. Also, if you decide ever to run discs and bedders, you'll find the extra weight very welcome when you're tying to make some nice straight beds with the bedders, they can pull a lighter tractor out of line.
Mahindra and Mahindra has a long history in the World at this point, and they're quality has apparently been increasing over the last several years.
The money you save will go a long way to buying something else to go ON the tractor as well.

John, the larger Mahindra's, such as the 00, 20, 25 and 30 series use Mahindra's own engines, as does the 7010 cab model. I've been to their engine manufactuing plant as well as to their foundry where they cast the blocks. It is a top notch engine by any standards, plus they are very responsive and fuel efficient. The balance of the 10 series uses Daedong and the 15 series use Mitsu, as the entire tractor is actually manufactured by Mitsu. Honestly, we've never had an engine problem with any Mahindra, regardless of the actual engine manufacturer.

I'm leaning towards the Mahindra but I dont know if I'm getting a good price or not. The dealer is Bar J Equipment in Cleveland Tx and they seem like they will be there for me if I ever have any trouble with the tractor. The price is $20,395 which includes 4530 w/FEL, 6' HD Mohawk "CHIEF" brush hog, HD 6' box blade and free dilevery which is about 30 miles. Is this a good price for my area?
