This is my first tractor, will be doing mostly digging, I have the option to buy a 2015 Mahindra 3616 with loader Hydrostatic trans, 56 hr. or 2015 Massey 1739E with loader Hydro tran, 120 hrs the cost is the same $17K , i will be putting a backhoe attachment on . I have researched and to me it looks like both are equal , would like input on pros and cons , need help too split my indecision ,need owner input !!!
Thx

Check out the number of posts on problems with both makes of tractors, then make your decision. I personally think Massey has a lot better quality control on their products. I have had no issues with my 1734e.

Personnally, I am a MF man...ran JD as a kid, it's all my Dad ever owned.
Mahindra is non existing in this part of the province.
I have a MF dealer 15 minutes from here and they have excellent service.
I never had a major problem through the 15 years I made business with them !

Neither company "makes" either of those models. All of the "fit and finish" and "quality control" has nothing to do with Massey or Mahindra. Mahindra does use their mCRD engine on their Mitsubishi built 3616. Interesting note on the Mahindra mCRD engine, it was developed in partnership with Perkins, the company whose diesel engines made Massey Ferguson famous.

With these two tractors, your decision should come down to your local dealer support. Which has the better/more established dealer in your area? Which has the better parts and service departments? How far do you need to travel with the tractor to get dealer service?

I have no experiance with either brand. Can I assume that you are looking at Goff's? I see that they have just started to carry Mahindra, will they continue to carry the Massy's or are they considered leftovers as they phase them out?

Yes it seems Geoff is leaning towards Mahindra, as I was pricing new salesman never mentioned the Masseys on the lot, I'm buying from private seller . They both seem of equal value , my closest dealer would be Mahindra

Have you operated both tractors? I personally did not like the layout and feel of Mahindra. If you haven't I highly suggest you do, that may push you one way or the other.

The feel of a machine is easier to adjust to than availability of parts and service, to which there is no adjusting. Testing each machine out is a valid point, but I'd still stick with a brand I can get local parts and support for over a layout variance that I can adjust myself to.

I looked it up and he has 3 Massey and 3 Mahindra dealers within 50 miles. And yes the closest one of both is the same dealer.

I also don't mean to disregard what the dealer is like. I chose not to go with another John Deere partially because they had questionable service practices and a sales office that couldn't be bothered to get out of their chair. So it is a consideration. But you also wouldn't buy a car without driving it. (at least most wouldn't)
