I recently purchased a new 4530 and traded in a 4505. Looking at the attached picture, you'll see the recommended PTO setting is at 2100 RPMs. My question is where do ya'll set your RPMs when doing loader work or anything else not using the PTO?

I just use whatever seems like enuf on the low side. On one hand you want hyd speed. On the other you want to spare the clutch. I usually keep the 7520at about 1250 when doing a lot of back and forth loader work. This gives sufficient torque to let the clutch right out - - then I give it pedal if I want travelling speed or more power. I pretty much save the high set speeds for when I cant use the pedal because Im using individual brakes or diff lock, etc.

I don't own a Mahindra.
But for loader work, boxblading, tilling, Etc. I always just use the foot throttle. That way I can vary the RPM's to whatever I want/need.

It depends on what I am doing.
Re-grading our road, usually about 1750.
Loader work, depends on how much. A little, I just use the foot throttle as needed, a lot and set the throttle at 1500 and the use the foot throttle as needed.
Disking, I set the rpms at 2500.
Harrowing I set the rpms at 1750.
Heavy digging dirt work using loader and Gannon box blade, 2000 rpm.

These are some examples that suit my needs, yours will vary due to tractor size and enviromental conditions. Just experment and you will find what works best for you.;) Hope that you have fun with your new tractor.
Merry Christmas

Thanks guys! This is the first tractor that I've owned that had a FEL. I've never used the foot throttle before, even on my old tractor. I'll try that as I have a lot of dirt work to do around the place. I'm building up the floor level of my barn before I lay down SB2.

Thanks again,

Mud,

Like the others said, I use about 1200-1400 rpm set on the hand throttle, and then use the foot throttle as needed. As you'll learn, it all varies with the job being done... use whatever speed is comfortable and gets the job done. The tractor doesn't care, for the most part. You just want to have your "idle" speed set so that you're not lugging the engine at low RPM's. I set my hand throttle to that level. Personally, I don't like to be on the foot throttle when I'm digging a scoop of dirt or whatever... it makes it too hard to be smooth. So, I set the hand throttle to whatever speed I need, and do my digging with that. Foot throttle for "transport" to and from.

That's the way I do it, works for me... you'll find what works for you ;)

I've got a 2615HST. I usually run between 1600-1800 for loader work such as snow removal, gravel, dirt, etc. and run in medium of the H/M/L selector. I control my speed with the HST pedal. Your RPM will probably be what you are comfortable running as to not bog down the engine but not be too fast to control easily. To get 540 RPM on my PTO I have to run about 2300 engine RPM

Thanks again for all of the input.
You know, its funny reading these posts and then learning that I've been doing things wrong or at least not the proper way. I bought my first Mahindra in 1999 and it also had a foot throttle as I guess most tractors do. I never used it except to travel on the road to go get gas and didn't use it much then. When I used my box blade, post hole digger, scraper blade or bush hog I'd set the throttle at pto rpms and let her rip. Sometimes I'd have to put it in 1 low for the slower speed, but other than that I would be in 2 or 3 low and at a steady 2200 rpms regardless of what chore I was doing. The reason I'm sharing my ignorance with everyone is to say thanks for the advice. ONE single post can sometimes teach someone so much more than years of wrong practice!

So thanks to all,

Mud

Mud,

Happy to help!!

To anyone in the future... The only thing that mark on the tach is for, is to show what RPM you need to get 540rpm at the PTO... That's it. That's really the only thing it's relevant for.

I don't know about best power of the engine... you'd really have to see the HP/Torque vs. RPM curves to say that with any certainty. Yeah, I'm sure it's in the neighborhood, but probably not exactly right on that RPM marked on the tach.

Mud,
Just remember not to let the engine lug or bog down and all will be fine. :)
