Howdy All, Lady farmer here. I have a Mahindra "00"Seies 5500. Just change the oil and filter, began cutting hay made a few rounds and tractor started spiting and sputtering up a small hill. Like it is not getting fuel. I changed all the fuel filters, drained fuel tank put in new fuel, ran like new for 15 minutes. Started spiting & sputtering, and I didn't make it back to the barn, it died on me.

:(I checked the new fuel filter for trash or debris, and it was clean. I pumped the hand pump on the fuel pump, it started, I then bleed the lines of air. It cranked, ran ok for a few minutes and shut off again. Could not get it to crank again. Could the fuel pump have gone out like that, or could it be the water separator. I once had trouble with a JD water separator. It is though it is not getting fuel.

You did'nt mention the year, but the Mahindra is real susceptible to the in tank screen clogging on the newer model's.The screen is so fine that it clogs easily due to bacteria etc...might take a look.

I would recommend checking fuel flow from tank. It's possible lift(hand) pump or fuel solenoid failed.

Thank you for the reply. I have hay on the ground, hay in the field needing to be cut, it is memorial day weekend and there are no mechanics in town.
If it is bacteria how do you clean that? The tractor is a 2002. Will I need to take the tank off to clean it well? Is the screen in the bottom? One more question. When I open the first injector air bubbles came out, but when I opened the second I saw no bubbles of air and the engine shut off. I was thinking I was letting air out. When I open the second one did I let air in?

Where would I locate the fuel solenoid? There is no mention of it in my book.

Sorry. I can't answer your questions.
But check Dave Siemen's website at Dave's Tractors and send him an email.

Dave's Tractor, Inc - Home

Or PM him here at TBN--his ID is "DavesTractor"

Good luck.

As was suggested earlier the first thing I would check is make sure you have a good solid stream of fuel coming out of the tank. Then check to make sure you dont have gunk in the bottom of the tank that can move around and clog the fuel line while in motion.I am not familliar with your model,If it has a pump I would loosen the line after the pump and see what kind of pressure you have.Check your fuel lines you might have a crack in one of your lines to the pump/injector that is sucking air while running.

Where would I locate the fuel solenoid? There is no mention of it in my book.

If engine dies when ing switch is turned to off then there's an elect solenoid located on inj pump
