I'm pretty new to tractors. I'm using a Ford/Newholland 3230 that my wife's grandfather bought new, probably in 1993 or so. He preferred his older tractor for most tasks, so this one only has a couple hundred hours on it. He's since passed away and I never learned anything from him about tractors. I've always done all of my own maintenance and repair work on my cars/trucks and I'm planning on doing the same for the tractor. Plus, I have no way of transporting the tractor.

I'm looking for some basic (or model specific) information on maintaining a tractor and popular implements (most of my tractor use involves a 6' caroni finish mower).

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Keith

You can get an owners manual from the manufacturer which will give you your intervals and specifications specific to your model. General manintenance is to lube fittings at about every 10 hours of operation. Oil changes at about 100 hours. same with hydraulic filter changes. Everything else is pretty much as needed. I'm a bit remise on the lube (grease fittings) as when I'm doing a bunch of FEL work I'll be lubing every day or two. But most tractor maintenance is common sense i.e. the dirtier work you're doing the more maintenance you'll need. The same goes for your implements. At the beginning of the season check everything and before use at least do a visual to see if oil/grease is leaking. Bolts aren't missing or broken parts. Like I said common sense.

Sorry for your lose but good luck with the tractor.

Welcome to TBN and tractor ownership. If you're comfortable with doing maintenance and repairs on your cars, shouldn't be to much trouble for you to work on the tractor. I find many of the problems to be easier to get to on a tractor.
