You're welcome.

That auto-stacker or whatever it's called is a very cool machine. Apparently, if it worked well and you had a wall to stack against, you could do the whole haying job through to stacking the hay in the barn (first floor unless you had a large elevator) with only one person.

Has anyone used one of these and actually stacked in the barn with it, rather than dump it out and load it into the barn by hand?

Cliff did indeed help stack. The actual baling and bringing it in from the field was contracted, but we had to bring it into the barn and stack it by hand.

I have posted about the bale stacker before, it really is a neat machine.

Re: Makin\' hay with Cliff Johns

All we use in Idaho are hay stackers. Ours are self-propelled and we stack everything outside in big stacks that are about the size of a football field. I put a limited number in an old barn that I restored and stack them. Mostly I drive the stacker into the barn and throw them into the loft. We can store 15,000 bales in the old barn that we restored in Iowa.

Hey, wait a minute! Dave told me that stacking was the "fun" part. He said he'd charge me less to help with the field work, but that it wasn't nearly as interesting or instructional as being in the loft stacking. He didn't con me did he?

Re: Makin\' hay with Cliff Johns

Richard,

Are your stackers larger that this one? This one holds 105 bales per load, and I can't imagine how long it would take to retreive 15,000 bales from the field using this one.

Actually, I can.....it took us about 4 hours to get 1000 bales done, so that is about 5 days of 12 hrs work to do 15,000. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Retrieving 15,000 bales the old fashioned way, ie loading wagons from the ground, takes about 6 weeks with a crew of 6 working 3 or 4 days a week.

I am guessing that means non-stop work for the entire season, because by the time you get done, it's time to go back and start cutting and baling at the other end of the field. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
