For years I have been using an old trailer gate for a trail drag. But it was a little narrow, and decided to make a new one...keeping the old one for roughing in a new trail. The old one is mostly made with 2" 3/8" wall angle, with some thinner angle for the tread area. Brush/sticks/etc stuck in it from time to time. The new one is the same length, 75"... but is a foot wider at 4'. Made of 3" 1/4" wall sides and 48" 2-1/2" 3/8" wall angle for the cutting blades/plow parts. The thing acts like a grader, knocking off the high parts and filling in the low parts of my woods trails. I could do a similar thing with my Land Plane, but the LP is a little too aggressive for what I want to do. I just drive my trails on nice days and looksee while I am doing it.
Some of the trails I have put in are getting wide and it takes to long to drag them with the old 3' drag. I keep all my trails grass free and do them often enough to look for tracks when I walk them. The new one is upside down and needs to be squared up some yet for welding tomorrow....
