I just purchased a Woods TC60 Roto-Tiller and want to make a side-shift adjustment which allows the tiller body to be shifted to the right up to 15 1/2" to cover the right rear tire mark.

The TC60 Operators Manual has one brief paragraph on how to make the adjustment and does not explain the procedure very well.

I understand everything except what happens to the hex drive shaft connecting the chain drive to the gear box. The hex shaft is one solid piece - it does not telescope into itself (become shorter) as the gear box is shifted. So where does the hex shaft go as you slide the gear box assembly to the left? Does it slide inside the gear box? I don't see how you could slide 15 1/2" of the hex shaft inside the gear box.

I don't want to damage the gear box seals and would like to know how this works before I try -- has anyone performed this adjustment before?

Many Thanks,

Earl

I do not know about the Woods method of offset. However on my BEFCO tiller the hex shaft slides through the center of the gearbox and comes out the other side. I would think your woods could be similar.
I just looked at the manual for your tiller online. It appears to be the same as mine. The hex shaft passes through a hollow center of the gearbox. It will not affect the seals.
