making land smooth...

i have a few acres of pasture that is flat like a typical hay field, and smooth enough to drive on, yet the land isnt perfectly smooth, there is little bumps spread all over. i would like to make it smooth enough for an airplane run way. all i have is a 6 foot disc, boxblade and scraper blade. what would be the best way to make it smooth? would one of those heavy rollers work?

I use a piece of hurricane fencing,, 6’ by 10’ with some old railroad timbers laid across and tie down,, drag it with my tractor.. It will get as smooth as you would like.. Lou

well what about grasss? i still have grass growing on it. so its holding all the dirt together

You need it not only smooth, but flat, for higher speeds. That usually means something long.

It will slide over the grass.. it will cut the high spot down.. I use it in my hay fields in the spring if I have to many crawfish mounts.. Lou

ahhh ok, i see. yea the bumps in my field arent tall enough to be grabbed by any thing like that. :confused3:

If you are looking for runway smooth bring in a road grader.

A chain harrow may help the situation.

If light planes are using it, speeds will be in the vicinity of 60-75 mph, with relatively tiny wheels, like 5.00-5 and 6.00-6.
