Mammograms and Deer Ticks

Up this way in Northern Ohio it has not been too bad, too much COLD and SNOW for most part I guess. My Ex was from Mo, (Stockton Lake area) and we went out there and did some fishing (back in the pate 80's) came back in & Step mom said ok strip on back porch! I was like WHAA & ex wife got pretty much naked right there & was looking for em. Between the two of us we must have had 40 or 50 deer ticks on is! Ya I was pretty grossed out... That was after taping up the jean legs with duct tape and hosing down with spray. That was GOOD SPRAY vs stuff you can buy now with higher EPA issues. At least the ex M-N-Law didn't offer to check my junk for em lol...  At 20 something I was embarrassed enough with my other half looking me over the washer & dryer was where clothing went & back porch was dusted with Seven Dust 24/7 thick coating on the floor... They had one of the remaining all never tilled natural flower/meadows on the farm & had Mo state come to get seeds from them on regular basis in that field.

UG now I'm all itchy :/

Wife and I took a short walk down one of my trails to check the trail-cam Friday. Was shocked when got back to the cabin as we both had about 10 ticks on our socks/legs. Thankfully, we weren't out long and got to them quickly. It was extremely cold this winter in VA, and all the "experts" said one beneficial side effect would be less ticks and pests. Hmmmmm....that didn't pan out!

I wish cold weather had an effect on ticks. We had the lowest and longest sustained cold I have had in NC. We had several days down to 6 and one to 9. The cold stayed around too and we have ticks all over the place just like always. One year we had had 24 inches of snow and the agent selling the land we bought was out in the snow and found a tick on her. Nothing short of fire and chemicals kills these danged things. The wifey pulls ticks off the dog constantly even though the dog is treated.

I'd say it's been average to high tick season so far in my part of VA. I pick off about 1-3 anytime I do projects or yard work.

Oddly, I keep finding them on the door jamb going into my workshop (which also leads into the garage). They are always close to door knob height. We use that doorway quite often, and I wonder if they somehow sense that and figure it's a good jumping-off point.

I have good luck with permetrin-soaked gaiters around my ankles, holding my pants legs closed to my workboots, but can only tolerate pants in cooler weather. Now that it's hot, I will probably try a smaller cloth band tied around my socks at the boot line.

The best part of working outside is coming in and telling my wife she needs to check me for ticks after the kids go to bed and I shower!

Permethrin and DEET are my weapons.

Recently got Deer Tick bite so it's time for some serious repellent. Ordered Sawyer Permethrin from Amazon. Thanks for the heads-up.
