Horrible. . . . .
What can we learn from these tragedies? Dads, this is an unfortunate reminder to double-check the integrity of our ROPS. Unfortunately, the Ford 2000 dates back to the mid 60's - and wasn't equipped with a ROPS. . .
I'm sure this is discussed at length, but I do think you can safely take your kid for tractor rides (I do with my 2 yo). You just need to take the extra time and take all the safety precautions that you probably don't follow when it's just you in the seat. I always make sure my son has a bike helmet, seatbelt, and the ROPS is up. I also "only" take my son for a ride when I'm driving on relatively flat ground . . . and I'm not doing serious FEL ground engagement work. I think it's really important to teach your kids how to safely operate a tractor - just have to use a little common sense.
I can only imagine how mom must be feeling right now - losing husband and son. . . . . really tough.
