Authorities say man killed in tractor accident in Hazel Green

HAZEL GREEN, Alabama -- A man is dead after a morning-tractor accident in Hazel Green, authorities said.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, fell off his tractor and the machine ran over him, investigators with the Madison County Sheriff's Office said.

The accident happened around 9 a.m. near Bobo Section Road in Hazel Green.

The Times is withholding additional information about the accident and location pending notification of next of kin.

As usual, that sucks. I guess he bypassed his seat safety switch, or never had one.

Since the article doesn't mention what the tractor was, I'd guess it was an older gear drive with no ROPS, seatbelt or seat switch.

I wonder if they will check for a heart attack or something else? That the tractor was secondary.

That was my first thought too. Surely they would perform an autopsy? Especially if he was doing something as simple as driving along on level ground. Either way, he's gone and it's a sad time for the family.

My father in law died of a heart attack just behind our house while driving his tractor. He was in a cab, so remained in the tractor. We have had at least two other such deaths where the men remained on the tractor for a considerable distance before coming to a stop against something or turning over in one instance after going through a couple of fences and fields.

As to an exam after death,I bet it really depends on what he was towing behind the tractor? It would take a lot to stall out a geared tractor of any size?remember the Walmart DEERE parking incident? Wow.
